As the aspen change color in the mountain valleys and as football season gets well underway, the Association of the Great Divide once again opens a busy schedule of luncheons, social functions, and enrollment work. This should not imply, however, that our group lay dormant through the summer months.
On June 14, Edwin H. (Ned) Grant '30, and his wife, Marybell, again graciously offered their beautiful farm southwest of Denver to the boisterous men of the Dartmouth Clan. Beer drinking, steak eating, Softball playing, swimming and tennis offered pleasant diversion for the group. Schuyler E. Grey '54 and his able committee provided perfect weather and plenty to eat. A good turnout of alumni, undergraduates and new men of the Class of '62 was present.
On August 9, the Association's annual Squaw Picnic was held at the private reservation of the Kiwanis Club on Genessee Mountain several miles west of Denver. The organization of the affair was perfectly arranged by Sky Cross '46 and his efficient committee. The afternoon's festivities commenced with a gigantic softball game (at least so members per team) where the alumni matched skills with the undergraduates. After several hard fought innings the alumni were declared to be the victors. This was due not only to the valiant efforts of the team but also to the skillful umpiring by alumnus Everett Parker '16.
After a fine steak dinner with all the trimmings a gathering was held around a large campfire where singing and story telling climaxed a wonderful afternoon and evening.
With these pleasant memories of the summer season our Association is actively moving forward to a busy fall program of activities.
