Another month! We hear that spring is just around the corner, but you wouldn't know it by the kind of weather they have been tossing at us recently. A northeaster yesterday almost brought New England to a standstill.
Not much news this month, and much of what I have is bad. Tragedy has struck ArtHills for the second time in two years. While on a ski trip over Washington's Birthday weekend, Art's second wife, Eleanor, was killed when their car was involved in a head-on crash with a pick-up truck in Woodstock, Me. Art was hospitalized with facial cuts, some broken ribs, and a banged up leg, but I understand he is now on the mend. Art's first wife, Dorothy, died in the spring of 1969 after a long illness. They were named the tennis family in 1969 in Winchester, Mass., and a wing of the Winchester indoor tennis courts has been named in Dorothy's memory. Art and Eleanor were married early last year. I'm sure that every one in the class joins me in sending our heartfelt sympathy to Art, his three boys, and Eleanor's two daughters by a previous marriage.
The class has lost another member. Dr.Allen "Chub" Keniston died of a heart attack at his home in Port Jervis, N. Y., on February 1. Chub had practiced medicine in Port Jervis since his release from the Air Force in 1947 after three years of service during World War 11. The Class extends its sincere condolences to his widow, Dr. Julia Cuddeback Keniston, and their two sons and three daughters.
After dividing his time since graduation between the field of education and two hitches in the Air Force, Paul Badger settled in 18 months ago as principal of the Ashland, N. H., High School. Word now comes that Paul has been released from his contract for reasons of health. No further information on this is available at this time, but hopefully I will be able to give you a follow-up in a future column. We hope Paul's problems are temporary and not serious.
A clipping from a Springfield, Mass., newspaper tells that Dave Chittin, who has served for two years as vice-chairman of the high school building committee in his home town of Longmeadow, was seeking the Republican nomination for School Committee in last month's primary election. The outcome of the campaign was not available at the time this is being written. Dave has been with New England Telephone since his release from the Army Corps of Engineers in 1946. He has served in management positions in the accounting, personnel, and sales departments. For two years he was management development supervisor for the company in Massachusetts, and is presently serving as a division sales manager.
That's it for another month. Unless you want the remaining columns this spring to be exclusively devoted to putting the bite on you for the Alumni Fund, please give me something else to write about.
