San Francisco: Noting the note that notable Guy P. Wallick '21 had been expedited by Pac. Tel. & Tel. to vice-president for merchandising corporate lingo for promotion for profit - local Prexy Jack Slattery '38 challenged him to devise a Dartmouth Night program of Cape Canaveral calibre. Suiting action to the word, the versatile ex-president of the Alumni Council produced from his white sombrero a fellow phone executive, George Leftwich, Univ. of Ala. '28, one of the 38 Bell System executives exposed to Hanover's "liberal-education-in-eight-weeks" this past summer.

Naturally, the guest speaker's experience as one from the deep South going to school in the far North was an absorbing story of contrasts, well seasoned with intimate bits of life on Hanover Plain including an excellent resume of the summer school faculty members. The record-size audience (fully half from classes of the last decade) gave their guest a standing ovation for his well balanced, informative and inspiring report.

Bob Leavens '01, Mr. Dartmouth in the hearts of this area's alumni, telling of earlier Dartmouth Nights, was never in better form.

Alumni Councilor Ritchie Smith '26 presented a crisp and most impressive review of the progress and program of the Capita Funds campaign. Harmonizer Dave Smith '35 save the evening (and the neighborhood) the lilting lift of Dartmouth singing. One pleasant aspect of professional merchandising aimed at Dartmouth men is that after it gets the wheels rolling, you can throw it out the window.
