Richard S. Cox, grandson of our beloved classmate, Isaac J. Cox, graduated from Dartmouth in June 1957. He majored in Physics, taking some advanced courses. Dartmouth was made possible for him through the Richards Fund Bequest. He was the first descendant of a '96 man to be granted aid from this Fund for his full college course.
What a wonderful thing Guy Richards did in giving his entire estate to the College for student aid. This Fund is now approximately $200,000. This produces annual income of some $10,000 to help many able students at Dartmouth pay the present high cost of $2,000 or more per year.
Descendants of members of the class of 1896 are given preference in granting Richards Fund aid. What a wonderful thing this Fund is and what good it will do to help make Dartmouth possible for many students over the long future.
Richard is now a graduate student at Northwestern University. He is carrying courses in Physics, Mechanics, Optics, Electricity. He expects to get his Master's Degree next fall, then on for a Ph.D. Degree. If Ike had lived how proud he would have been of this fine and able grandson. He will do a fine job in life.
