I feel so exposed writing for the bold glare of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE after a year of the intimate class Newsletter, where a split infinitive could pass without criticism. Now years under Sidney Cox, Jack Finch and Cudworth Flint must rise to prove my worth as vour duly elected secretary, thanks to a railroad election by Coffin, Priddy, and others. Shows what clean living will do.

Anyway, the class newsletter was fun, and if any of it served to bring us closer together, it was worth it. Farmer Meade will take it over in his capable way. We both want facts, lots of facts, about you. He who hesitates sending anything of moment deserves oblivion. The class notes and newsletter are two places for sounding your own horn; if you get tired of seeing names repeated month after month, blame yourself. We'd like to know about you and tell others about you.

Stan Priddy, brilliantly culminating a career as class secretary, outdid himself describing our 15th reunion. That affair was unforgettable, and I wish space allowed mentioning the friends I met again. Kent Hutchinson, Walt Powers and Paul Young made fine arrangements, aided of course by that old arranger, Kelly Coffin, and that financier, Bob Craig. In retiring, Stan Priddy has our appreciation for his loyalty and effort in what I am finding is a demanding job.

The passing parade continues ... Alan J.McBean was recently promoted to general traffic personnel supervisor for The Southern New England Telephone Company ... GailC. Smith,, now marketing administrator for the Sperry Semiconductor Division in Norwalk, lives in Fairfield with wife Mary and four children Russ Smith, vice president of the Manhattan Savings Bank, reelected president of the Mortgage Bankers Association of New York Horace Rockwell, leaving his old law firm, now general counsel of Ensign-Bickford Co. of Simsbury, Conn JimWells, new manager of marketing for William Underwood Co., has toured the Caribbean and South America for that old deviled ham.... Bud Kast, carrying the ball for secondary education, elected president of the Association of Heads of Independent School of Northern New Jersey Tom McManus won an uphill fight for trustee of the Beebe Memorial Library in Wakefield, Mass. His late application for the job almost eliminated him, requiring a joint meeting of library trustees and town selectmen to put Tom in office over five strong candidates. Good clutch hitter! ... Charming article on Bob Costello in the "Pioneer Times," Houlton, Me., by the Madhatter. Eminently successful as the executive producer of Circle Theater on TV, one of the medium's most respected and courageous productions, Bob used to impress me in one' of our freshmen courses in his stand against certain of the professor's diatribes. I can refresh him, if he's forgotten.

Wedding bells.... Marilyn Ann Ramsdell to Dr. Berger Howard Carlson, June 27, 1959. the Methodist Church, Weirs Beach, N. H. Berger took his medical degree from Northwestern, served two years of active duty in the USN, and is an attending surgeon at the Concord Hospital.

Very nice note from Bill Whitmarsh, vice president of Frost and Davis Lumber Co., N.Y.C. Married in 1957 Miss Douglas Mason Phillips, a Rochester girl. During their delayed honeymoon in the spring of 1958, they were the first American couple through the American pavilion at the Brussels Fair and heard themselves on Monitor broadcasting from Brussels the Sunday after their return. They now live in New Haven.

As of August 5, the capital campaign listed 18,105 contributors of $17,115,310. The professional fund raisers were amazed at the class agent's share of $820,000. Guess they hadn't heard of Leo Silverstein and his irresistible pleas. Now all we must do is make good our pledges. Let's start off right on that score.
