Memo to Mrs. White for my class file: Hard to turn the mind from business things to Dartmouth things. The Holy Cross weekend was refreshing.... Fun sitting in the grandstand facing the beautiful Balch Hill, letting the eyes wander through the crowd .. . almost surprised to see faces belonging to Ray Colby, Bob Field, Frank Hartmann, Jack Meleney, Ted Driscoll, Graham Conklin, Hud Wilson, Jim Elleman, Bud Hall, Phil Jackson, Al McBean, Don Reich, George Munroe, Bud Silverstein, Ed Lider, Paul Young, Bob Clark, Bob Pelren, Pete Heggie, John Hyde, Al LeMarbre, Stan Calder, Bill Wilson, Bus Mosbacher, Fred Stockwell, Alex Nagle... a real turnout.

Saturday noon lunch on the Hopkins Terrace enjoying the sun's warmth ... BudHall wondering where son Bret got his energy ... the studio of English sculptor T. B. Huxley-Jones where we saw the model of the 1943 Memorial Fountain. Completed, it will occupy a part of Hopkins Center exterior to remind admirers of its beauty that when Duty whispered low, "Thou must!" the Youth replied, "I can." ... Twenty years have quickly passed .. . Anderson, Broughton, Carey, Crego, Kearney... and too many others. . . .

Good to see Stan Calder in Hanover. Margo Hartmann picked up Stan and Frank from a NYC street corner, drove them both to Hanover. Stan is changing course after many years in the paper business and seems headed for investment banking.... Ed Lider still has that old bounce. His early aeronautical feats in Hanover came back to haunt him. Success becomes him. . . . BudSilverstein returned to Hanover after too long away. He did many great things for this class when he was class agent.... AlexNagle, with son out of Exeter and into Dartmouth freshman class, says he'll catch up with the class where he left off.... Domesticated Bob Clark (formerly Popular Bob) and Bunny all excited about a new baby about to be adopted. .. . Paul Young and Ruth deserve so much appreciation for their lovely open house after the game. It's a highlight of the weekend. Paul is invaluable to the class in so many ways and particularly in his rooming arrangements. ... Scene of the weekend: Nagle and Mosbacher comparing hairlines... . The winner: Conklin.

Really should use the item Chuck Arnstein clipped from the Dallas Morning News showing Johnny Krol hitting the deck. Philly papers carried it too. Seems that one of John's Waltham High players missed a block, instead took out of play the venerable coach, who had a classic look on his face. .. . Palmer Wright answered one of our letters. Until recently he was assistant professor at College Of Letters, Delta College, University Center, Michigan. Now on a two years' leave of absence at University of Michigan, working on a Ph.D. in American Culture, covering literature, philosophy, and sociology.

Let's print this nice letter from Russ Sherburne: "In August I left White Sands Missile Range after four years as Chief Scientist to take a position on the research staff of the Research and Engineering Support Division (RESD) of the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA). IDA is administered by a board with membership made up of one representative from each of eight universities (MIT, Cal Tech, Case Institute, Stanford, etc.) and contracts with Department of Defense to provide technical advice. RESD has about 60 mathematicians, physicists, and EE's plus supporting staff. Offices are at 1666 Conn. Ave., N.W. We are enjoying Washington very much - live close (two miles) to work - just west of Georgetown University (4401 Q St., N.W.).... Drove up to Philadelphia for the Penn game . . . hope to go to Princeton too.... Will be delighted to see anyone who visits or resides there permanently."

This item from the Herald Trib about Mike Diaz should interest the group. Mike has left the Grace Line as vice president-traffic to join T. J. Stevenson as vice president. ...Bill Maeck advances to estate planning officer, The Fairfield County Trust Co., Greenwich. Bill took a tour at Dartmouth after the war as assistant to President Dickey, later became associated with Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Clarkson College, the Stamford Hospital, and Stamford Research Division, American Cyanamid Co. Bill, wife, and three children live in Weston, where he serves on the Board of Education and the Weston Library Building committee.

Not too many gals write me but at least Anne Pritchard explained their new address in New Britain - more space for a new daughter plus an acre and a half of woodland - all within city limits. The Pritchard children are Ted 14, Joan 11, Betsy 9, Carol 6 and now Susan. Anne enclosed a snap taken at last Reunion of Ruth Donovan, Stan Priddy, John Pritchard, Lucy andLarry Johnson. Anne mistook the aging Priddy for me. He was a good class secretary and at times I wish he still were.

Jack Meleney has developed some good reunion plans. Most activities will be confined to the immediate Hanover area. No traveling. Jack's worked hard on the plans, deserves support. Hope classmates will really plan on coming to Hanover for the Reunion. ... Let's send out more of those letters to reluctant '43's. They respond better with self-addressed envelopes . . . but what hap pens to the stamps on those who don't write?
