During September, two '07 deaths were reported. Bremer Pond died at the Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover on September 2, following a long illness. A report of his life since graduation will be found in the In Memoriam columns of the current issue. A brief statement that Leslie Woodman had died on March 12, 1959, has been received recently, and a report on Leslie's family and his career will be published in a later issue of the MAGAZINE.
In a recent issue of this MAGAZINE, your secretary referred briefly to the almost unanimous appreciation by class widows of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. It now seems that more can and should be said about their interest in the college, in '07, and in the MAGAZINE, which keeps them in touch with college and class activities. Since space is limited, evidence of widow interest will be portrayed by comments of a few.
Mrs. Victor King is delighted to receive the MAGAZINE, and no wonder. - Her son, Victor, is a member of the '31 class. This year, her second grandson, Victor, graduated from Dartmouth, and in three more years she hopes to see grandson Richard graduate, and also that her youngest grandson will go to Dartmouth.
Mrs. Joe McCann has a son, Harry, who graduated from Dartmouth in 1934, and his son, Joe, hopes to enter in 1961.
Mrs. Roger Shattuck reports that the MAGAZINE keeps her in touch with Roger's classmates, and with the classmates of her son, Gilman '48.
Mrs. Irene Hathaway appreciates the MAGAZINE because it is her principal contact with Dartmouth. She regrets that she has very infrequent contacts with Dartmouth men. - Classmates who live near or visit Bronxville occasionally, please call on Irene at 6 Leonard Road.
Other widows who maintain keen interest in Dartmouth and '07 affairs are: Mrs. Greenwood, Mrs. Field, Mrs. Stilphen, and Mrs. Hugo Schwarz; also Mrs. Warren Billings and Mrs. Romayne.
Tod and Mrs. Plummer enjoyed a visit with their son, Gordon '44, and his family, in August. Tod's five-year-old grandson has announced his decision to attend Dartmouth and to become an engineer, "but there won't be any steam-engines then," says the young man, "only Diesels."
Ben Washburn had what he describes as only a part-time job at Grace Church, in New York, during the recent summer. He reports vigorous health and feels the need of something more than keeping their Ridgefield, Conn., home in order. So, - he is active in a campaign by the General Theological Seminary for several millions, and is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of that institution.
