As the little boys at Cape Canaveral learn to count "to, 9, 8 ... 3, 2, 1, DAMN!!," from their fathers this twentieth edition of the '57 Rocket begins its wavering but brilliant climb into the stratosphere. Its signals from space are short but plentiful. In June Bob McCorriston and Miss Jane B. Rawlings were married. Bob is with the Industrial Relations Division of the Hawaiian Air Lines. Also married in June were Dick Norris and Miss Judith Anne Scott. Some of the ushers in the wedding were Bob Vostal and Charles Redman. Dick and his wife are living in San Diego, where the Navy is the theme of life. Miss Madeleine Johnson and Phil Anderson were married early in the summer and now live in Providence, R. I. In their wedding was Ken Rakouska. Tom Hazen and Miss Kathy Titherington were married and are now living in the environs of New York while Tom is at Columbia Business School.
Grover Farrish and Miss Gail Lewis are now Mr. & Mrs. They are at the University of Maryland, where Grover is studying to be a doctor. Vic Otley and Miss Gloria Beers were married this summer and are now living in Montclair while Vic finishes up his law study at Rutgers. Dick Schramm and Miss Daisy Sharpies were married — on my birthday - and are now living in Pittsburgh. Dick will be working for Westinghouse. Tony Jenks and Miss Ann Kelly were married in San Francisco and immediately took a honeymoon cruise to Hawaii where they will set up housekeeping in a snazzy native palm-thatched hut. Jim Vohr was married in San Diego to Miss Margaret Irvine and the Vohrs are now living in Coronado where Jim is playing Navy in an Anti-Submarine Squadron.
Al Wahlig and Miss Esther Wightman were married and are now living in Moorestown, N. J., while Al is completing his medical training at Hahnemann College. MonkBancroft was married to Miss Marsha Johnson during the summer "as were Al Escalante and Miss Ana Isabel de Rodriguez. JohnPlunkett, who just graduated from the University of Michigan Business School, and Miss Linda Brown were married during August. Rod DuBois and Miss Elizabeth Pyle were married here on Long Island and are now enjoying the Navy life. Dan Fearn was married in Viborg, Denmark, to Kirsten Marie Jacobsen. Dan and his wife are now back in the U.S. and living near New York while Dan works with Price Waterhouse & Co.
Dirck Myers and Miss Judith Abbott were recently married and are living in Seattle where Dirck is working for his doctorate in Biochemistry at the University of Washington. Mai Robinson and Miss Mary Quayle were married this fall shortly after Mai's graduation from Tuck School. Al Rollins and Miss Jane Muehlke were married and are now living in New Haven where Al is spying on the Yale football team as well as doing graduate work in the Yale School of Forestry.
Addie Bowman has been serving as assistant navigator and chief legal officer aboard the USS St. Paul. He is now going to leave for Japan where he and his wife, Ruth, will live for the coming year. When Addie has completed his Navy duty he plans to make the legal department a career. Also in the Navy, Sam Rocray recently got his wings when he completed his advanced flight training at Pensacola, Fla. Ted Everett and his Mrs. are the happy parents of Constance Jane Everett who was born June 11 and weighed seven pounds, six ounces. Shortly after that on June 14 Jack and Thelma Hewitt became the parents of a new Texan - Clayton H. Hewitt who weighed in at 5 pounds 14 ounces.
So the short messages from the ascending rocket end abruptly until next month when we hope to recover the nose cone and find out what happened on the short voyage. Until then may Hope and I bid you all farewell.
