This month's family kudos go to Judyand Bob Snell who live in Madison, Wis. In a nutshell, the Snells have created within their home, a transitional home for illegitimate children whose mothers are unable or unwilling to care for them. When these children leave the Snells' abode, they are adopted on a permanent basis. According to Judy, "the foster mother," the Snells have taken care of about fifty babies in the last five years. In addition to the "short term" babies, Bob and Judy have five of their own to care for. Bob's contributions to this most unique project are many and include numerous bottle feedings when he arrives home from work. While the number of infants under their care fluctuates, there are always three or four, often as many as five or six mouths to feed at least four times a day... and that's as many as 25-30 bottles a day.
How they got involved was succinctly answered by Judy: "Do you know how we got started taking care of the newborns? I suppose it sounds very corny, but one day we took a long, close look at our children and realized how blessed we were. They were normal, they were healthy, they were intelligent. It seemed like we just had to show our appreciation somehow. It would be a simple matter to write a check for our favorite charity every Christmas but that isn't enough. We both felt we had to give more of ourselves than that." Great project, Snells!
