Dartmouth's rugby team, featured last month in a Saturday Evening Post article by Hanover author Corey Ford, opened its season with a 3-0 victory over the Montreal Royal Irishmen, then had to settle for a 3-3 tie with a surprisingly strong M.I.T. team.

The Big Green ruggers have seven lettermen back this year, including Captain Roli Kolman, Art Cockburn, Chuck Drayton, John Edwards, Dennis Goodman, Jon Stockholm, and Dana Johnson. Another veteran, Dave Farfan, has returned after a year's absence.

Newcomers in the starting lineup include Jim Walquist, Hank Green, Dan Hummel, Mike Murphy, Bill Glynn, Bob Wangbichler and Bob Phillips.

In the opening game against Montreal, Jon Stockholm converted a difficult penalty kick for the lone tally. Bob Phillips converted a penalty kick against M.I.T. to put the Indians ahead in that game, but Tech tied it later in the second half and the Indians could not pull ahead again.

Cross-country Captain Roger Coates (1) with sophomore Tom Laris, who set local course records in two successive meets last month.
