On April 29 I observed my 91st birthday quietly in Boston at my apartment on Beacon Hill. The birthday greetings received from many friends, a large bunch of spring flowers, which beautifully decorated my living room, and a happy-91st-birthday cake to celebrate the occasion were much appreciated. From Hanover came a telegram, which pleased me much. It read: "Congratulations on your birthday from Dartmouth College, which you have served with devotion throughout your life. We will miss you at the meetings this weekend but hope to see you later in the spring. Best of good wishes to you for good health from your many friends in Hanover. Sidney C. Hayward, Secretary of Dartmouth College." Spending the evening of my birthday with me were my relative, Thomas C. Bartlett, a sophomore at Harvard, whose grandmother, Mrs. Willard W. Bartlett of St. Louis, Mo., previously in the day had sent me a telegram of birthday greetings, and Nathaniel Draper Whitin Allen, Harvard, class of 1925, Assistant vice president of the First National Bank of Boston. Mr. Allen is a son of Dr. Edwin H. Allen, Dartmouth '85, oldest living graduate, who observed his 95th birthday on April 16 last. He lives quite near me on Beacon Hill at 37 Hancock Street.
Mrs. Carl Adams Richmond of Tyngsboro, Mass., is preparing a Dartmouth '89 scrap book containing the Class Notes and obituaries prepared by me and published in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE since my appointment as Class Secretary early in 1942, for which I feel greatly honored.
Widows, relatives and friends wishing to pay tribute to the memory of deceased members of the Class of 1889 in this year's Alumni Fund Campaign should -mail their contribution before June 30 direct to the Dartmouth Alumni Fund, Hanover, N. H., and state in whose name and by whom (giving address) the contribution is made. Its receipt will be promptly and appreciatively acknowledged.
