April 24 was an important date for some eighty Dartmouth alumni, wives and guests as they gathered at the Piedmont Driving Club to inaugurate the Georgia Regional Capital Gifts Campaign. Chuck Palmer '18, Regional Chairman, and his gracious wife were the hosts of the evening. Joining them at the head table were Mr. and Mrs. John L. Sullivan '21, Dr. and Mrs. Ben Read '32, Mr. and Mrs. Lou Fortuna '38, Mr. and Mrs. Frank O'Gara '23, and Alva Wilson '25.
Many at the gathering were the old faithfuls who seldom miss a chance to enjoy the companionship of their fellow alumni. However we were pleased to have with us some who have been missing from our more recent meetings including C. C. Jones '18, Dr. John Fish '34, "Hap" Jones '24 and Walter Elcock '12. It also added to the success of the evening to have several out-of-towners join us, among whom were Karl Shedd '16 and Bob Carson '44 who journeyed from Athens, Ga., and John Allen '23 from New York. Our most senior alumnus present was WalterElcock of the class of 1912 and we were happy to have Stephen Rheingold with us from the newest of the alumni classes, 1958.
After a delicious meal, all present were pleased to be able to view the film, "The Dartmouth College Case - 1958," and to listen to a stirring talk on Dartmouth and her needs by John L. Sullivan '21. Everybody agreed that it was a very enjoyable evening and one well spent in the interests of Dartmouth College.
