It is gratifying to the members of the Dartmouth Club of Georgia to know that the Enrollment Committee under the direction of Georgia's "Mr. Dartmouth." Lou Fortuna '38 has been working long and hard in recent months. Twelve applicants and five of their fathers were entertained at our annual Christmas luncheon at Mammy's Shanty on famous Peachtree Street on December 29. Four of the Georgia students now at Dartmouth, Ben Read '62, Bill Whaley '62, Jere Sumter '61, and Bob Kahn '6O, were present and their comments were of considerable interest hot only to the prospective students, but also to the alumni present.
During recent months transfers and moves have taken several of our veteran members to other parts of the country. As a result, Dr. Ben Read '32 has taken over as President in place of Charles Altman '24, and Carl Evans '48 has replaced Vail Haak '49 as Treasurer.
And now Duncan Dobie '38 takes over as reporter on other Atlanta doings:
The Dartmouth Club of Georgia held a marvelously nostalgic get-together on January 30, 1959. Nostalgic, you say? Yes, and ice... real ice-skating in Georgia of all things!! Leo Caproni '42, who is managing the Belvedere Motel in Decatur, Ga., made the arrangements for a truly gala time at the nearby Ice-Skating Rink, and, after this activity, an appetite-curdling dinner was planned at the Belvedere Restaurant to aid and abet those hungry and ice-torn bodies of former staunch Indians from Dartmouth College and guests from Harvard and Princeton.
Homer and Louise Rowe '26, and charming daughter Carol, were present, and Homer and Carol cut some fine figures on the blades. ... Carl and Jan Evans '48 made the fashion picture as they waltzed easily to the melodious hum-drum juke-box (also pics by one Polaroid camera to the delight of all).... Carl Bremer '46 cruised around gracefully (?), with his lovely wife.... Lou and Louise Fortuna '38, complete with entire clan on skates, Don, Lee and little Kenneth, made a healthy family showing on the blades.... George Robison '56 cavorted on the ice gracefully, while wiser wife watched safe from the rail.... Roger Antaya '45, with son and daughter, carved a big "D" complete with sled in tow.... Dottie-Lee McCarthy, cute spouse of Dick McCarthy '50, skated for both of them as Dick was detained until cocktail time, on business.... Dune and Dorothy Dobie '38 watched from the side lines as daughter Glenn and son Dune IV tried ice-skating for the first time, on blades and seats. It was a great turnout, despite a teeming rain outside. Our splendid host, Leo Caproni, who incidently is a dapper dancer on skates, arranged for a welcome liquid party following dinner in one of the charming rooms of his Belvedere Motel.
