The Big Green varsity trackmen of Coach Ellie Noyes took one meet by a lop-sided score and dropped one by the same sort of score in moving along to a 3-2 record. Boston University fell before the Dartmouth runners, 71½ to 32½ as the Indians gathered in eight out of twelve first. The Dartmouth cage record for the 35-pound weight was broken by B.U. and NC4A champion John Lawler with a toss of 62 feet, 7¼ inches, eclipsing a 60 ft. mark he himself set last year. World's high jump record holder John Thomas did not compete because of ineligibility but did take two practice jumps of 6'4" and 6'6".
Dartmouth's individual winners were Nick Jennison in the mile run, Rick Husband in the broad jump, John Knight in the 45-yard high hurdles, Tom Laris in the two-mile run, Dave Sloper in the 50yard dash, Rod Isaacson in the shot put and three Indians, Greg Millet, John Holland and Dick Noel, tied in the pole vault.
In the New Haven cage it was Yale who dominated the meet to take ten of thirteen first places and an 85-24 triumph. Knight equalled a Dartmouth record of 07.4 in the 60-yard high hurdles, while the other Dartmouth winners were Laris in the two mile and Husband in the broad jump.
Laris, a sophomore, turned in one of his best indoor performances at the Millrose Games in New" York by taking a fourth.
