Alcoholism is a subject in which at least two of our members are interested to the extent of speaking publicly on their views. Jack Norris, an associate medical director of Eastman Kodak Company and chairman of the General Service Board of Alcoholics Anonymous, has reported there are 8,615 A A groups with a membership of 300,000 in 82 countries throughout the world. By comparison, at the end of its first five years of existence in 1940, AA barely mustered 100 men and one woman in the United States. While most of the groups (6,708) are in this country and Canada, the number of overseas groups have increased greatly. TomCarpenter, retired member of administrative staffs at several of this country's colleges and universities, is a director and executive committee member of the National Council on Alcoholism. In addition he is chairman of the executive committee of the Westchester, N. Y., County Committee on Alcoholism, board member of the Westchester County Mental Health Association and member of the Social Problems Committee of the Congregational Church. Tom received a Master's degree in sociology from the University of Chicago.
Clint Martin wrote on the status of his family last summer as follows: "My children are now on their own. Todd completed college at T.C.U. and Dariel went to Syracuse. She decided to get married instead of finishing and everything seems to be for the best. Both are married and between them we have three grandchildren. My wife is continuing where I left off in the education line. She is taking a summer school course at Trinity College, Dublin University. FrankKennedy is going to call on her while he is in Dublin in August." Alice and PaulPearson recently announced with completely understandable pride the birth of a grandson, Eric Glynn Hanson, by daughter Jane. Having had no son of their own, Alice and Paul are hoping the boy will matriculate at Hanover with the class of 1982.
