Still nursing numerous bruises from the Holy Cross game, the Big Green met Harvard at Cambridge on October 28. The so-called football prognosticators had picked the Indians to win by fourteen points. But in a series as ancient as this, nothing should be taken for granted.
For the first three periods, Dartmouth took it on the chin from a spirited Harvard team. Offensive mistakes proved costly, starting with a fumble on the Harvard one-yard line. Two intercepted passes and a fumble later, the Indians found themselves behind 21-0 with only a little over a period to play.
In the waning minutes of the third period, the Green started a drive from its own 20-yard line and, with King at the helm, covered the distance to the goal line in eleven plays. Krumme scored on a nine-yard sweep around end. A pass from King to Finsthwait was good and the Indians trailed 21-8.
With the minutes ticking away the Green finally held Harvard on downs and forced the Crimson to punt. On the first play from scrimmage, which started about the midfield stripe, King completed a pass to Krumme for 27 yards. Two more King passes and then a keeper by the quarterback from one yard out gave Dartmouth another touchdown.
With six minutes left in the game and behind 21-15, the Indians gambled that they could stop the Harvard offense and force another punt. But this time the Crimson wasn't to be stopped. The Johnny Harvards kept the ball on the ground and recorded three first downs to run out the clock.
