The Dartmouth Alumni Association of Cleveland has been active during the summer months. Aside from the weekly luncheon get-togethers, which have been continuously well-attended, we have had two successful picnics. The first of these was our annual picnic for alumni and undergraduates, held this year on July 14. Approximately sixty men were in attendance for an afternoon of beer and baseball, and a "Las Vegas Night" of gambling. Prizes were awarded to the big money men at the end of the evening (the prizes were real - the money was not). Ted Daus '55 was in charge of this one, and a good time was had by all.
Picnic #2 was held on August 29 for the Cleveland Area boys who will be journeying to Hanover for the first time this fall as members of the class of 1966. Approximately 15 of them were present along with 15 or so alumni at the Clifton Club. Waldemar Meckes Jr. '42 arranged for a delicious picnic supper of grilled hamburgers and cheeseburgers, cokes, beer, etc., and an evening of conversation and questions about Dartmouth life. Robert Hartford '65 told the boys what they could expect during their first few weeks as freshmen and answered innumerable questions concerning studies, food, girls, clothing, etc. The evening provided a wonderful opportunity for boys to get to know one another and alleviated many of their apprehensions about beginning college life.
Another Tea Dance . . . another success! That is the story for this month's article from the Cleveland Alumni Association. On September 22, chairmen George Kingsleyjr. '54 and James Courtney '53 welcomed approximately 150 couples to the Chagrin Valley Hunt Club and the annual Dartmouth Tea Dance. Nelson Pressley and his five-piece band provided the musical enjoyment as alumni, friends, wives, and dates, young and old, "twisted" up an appetite in the early evening hours. Once again this affair was a huge success from every standpoint, not the least of which was the $473 boost given to the Association's scholarship fund from the profits. This is truly one of the outstanding annual events put on by the Cleveland alumni, and a very worthy cause is served. Our thanks to all who were in attendance; condolences to those of you who missed.
