On Friday, March 10, the Dartmouth Club of Cleveland held its annual Election Luncheon at the Mid-Day Club. The Nominating Committee presented its slate of officers for the Club year 1961-62, the nominations were closed, and the slate was approved unanimously (I know it must have been unanimous, because there was no opportunity for a dissenting vote). With the usual Dartmouth speed and efficiency, the following officers were elected: President, William L. Ziegler '50; Ist Vice President, Raymond M. Barker Jr. '52; 2nd Vice President, Robert Jones '29; Secretary, John C. Klein '52; Treasurer, Fred R. Harrell '53; Assistant Secretary, Robert G. Gilchrist '44; Assistant Treasurer, Alan C. Akeson '58.
The luncheon was very well attended, which is attributable not so much to the election as to the promise of some very interesting movies shown by Raymond M. Barker '33. He had recently been on a safari to Kenya Colony, East Africa, in conjunction with the Cleveland Zoo, and his films of the native habitat and wildlife in that area was extremely entertaining.
Our Annual Meeting was held on Tuesday evening, March 21, at the University Club. Approximately fifty members of the Club were present to hear Dean-Emeritus Joseph McDonald bring us up to date as to the latest developments in Hanover, both construction-wise and otherwise. Everyone en- joyed his many anecdotes concerning humorous experiences with the Dartmouth student body during his tenure as Dean.
At this meeting, Bill Ziegler was installed as the new President, and outgoing President Francis C. "Sandy" Mills III '38 was presented with a framed picture of Dartmouth Hall in appreciation of his leadership during the previous year. The members attending from the classes of 1933 and 1964 were awarded prizes for having the greatest number of members present at the Dinner. John R. Childs '09 was awarded a prize as the "youngest" man present.
The Club's activities in the near future include a dinner for the high school students who have recently been accepted by Dartmouth, and the annual picnic late in June (this is always a good one!).
