A three-day nor'easter with Hurricane Diane hanging on the tail drenched New England and Hanover the weekend of the Fall Reunion. Rain and three good Dartmouth teams drowned Penn's hopes — in fact, pushed them to negative yardage. Some 37 members of the Class were in and about Hanover; not all, however, braved the downpour in Memorial Stadium. Josh and Jill Davis, Coggy Broer and son-in-law, and Paul Hannah, Pat Partridge, Al Pulsifer and wives, along with your scribe and son Curtiss '53 and grandson David '77 (we hope), were the nucleus of the '27 group who held out till that last soggy tackle.

The class meeting in the morning at the Rogers had 26 in attendance. Highlights were class acceptance of the Regional Chairman plan with Cug Daley, Chairman of New England States; Don O'Hara, New York Region; Leon Loeb, Mid Atlantic; JoeHardin, South East; Jack Sheldon, Central Region; Sam Martin, Northwest; Bo Head, Mid Southwest; and Bruce McKennan, Southwest. See the Speakeasy for territory details. The recently mailed class directory will provide the addresses of the regional chairmen. Bob Stevens announced appointment of Jim Picken as Reunion Chairman stating his experience conducting Cook's tours would help round up us '27ers at the appointed time and place. Bob also appointed Duke Coulter Nominating Chairman.

Cug Daley is planning a '27 dinner in Boston in December with Dr. Tom Anglem and Dr. Joe Kelly leading "a night with the doctors." Come in health.

Paul O'Connell, who ran a fine Fall Reunion, was instructed to try to move next year's headquarters to Hanover. Bob Williamson reported on funds that ShortyOliver had left over from the 35th. The meeting voted them into the endowment fund for '27 memorial room in Dick's House.

An enthusiastic dinner at the Inn Tavern room that night had a large group of '27ers and wives plus eight sons of '27 now in Hanover. Sorry we couldn't reach all of them in time. Bob Tucker's son Bob Jr. is manager of football and is most enthusiastic about how well the team will do this year. His brother Dave, a freshman, was there too. This leaves Bob with one more son still to go green. Sam Martin's son Norm came with Ken Meyercord Jr., Ken Meyercord's boy; Bill Gibson represented his father Charlie Gibson. Bob Page had his towering son Bob Jr. and Paul O'Connell, his boy Paul Jr. Some of the sons were really impressed at how much fun their fathers and their classmates were having. Nat Morey won recognition for coming from the most distant point, Bloomington, Ill., where he runs the Ralston Purina plant and is a bank director and what-not. He played the Inn piano all during the rainy game, and there is some question whether he ever got away from the Tavern piano that night long enough to have any dinner. Jack Greener brought his "thump thump" version of a one-man band that is becoming a fixture at '27 gatherings in Hanover and New York. Please note in your directory that Jack's address is now 216-07 Palmer Drive, Rockaway Point 97, N. Y.

Ben Bell and his wife Mim joined us in Hanover for the first time in many fall moons. Mim says Doc Bill Browning is just about Medic #1 at Putnam Memorial Hospital, Bennington, Vt.

Miscellaneous notes from your secretary's notebook that were discernible after it spent a week drying out: Bunny Smith's son is now with your scribe's company, IBM, in Philadelphia, and his daughter is getting married the date of the Dartmouth-Harvard game. Erasmus High class of '23 held a reunion in Lebanon, N. H., the weekend of '27's Fall Reunion. Jack Greener, Tom Gillespie and Ted Girault spent four years in Erasmus, four years in Hanover and 34 years in University Glee Club together. Page Ripley!

Good words received about '27's Class Baby - remember? Anne Lyman Steffens, daughter of Art Lyman, lives in Leland, Mich., and has presented Art with three grandchildren, and his other daughter Jane Allen has presented him with four. Art and his wife Marge along with Sam Wormser and Alice had spent most of the week at the Inn, reporting the foliage around Hanover and north to the Canadian border particularly beautiful this year. Sounds like a great idea for a fall vacation next year. Ed Baker and Ruth also were early arrivals at the Inn.

Charlie and Barbara Bartlett, who combined the reunion with a visit with their son at Kimball Union, reported a great month this summer in Ireland where they rented a house on the southern coast. Phil Fowler and Madeline spent the weekend with MikeChoukas and Gertrude. Others at the gathering: Andy Rankin, your new Class AgentFred Page, down from his Vermont farm and up from New York; Howie and EdnaMullin, in from Pittsburgh; Jack Sheldon and his wife, on from Muskegon; Bill St.Amant and Susan, and Don O'Hara and Alice, Don sporting a '27 hat. Ding Heap and Lucille brought "Rusty," their Golden Labrador, to all the festivities. "Rusty" was very well behaved. Bob Funkhouser added official college dignity to the class meeting. Hitch Hitchcock was on hand with his very attractive daughter, a Smith student. GeorgeWoelfel and Amy reported they have moved out of General Delivery to 161 Linden Street in Manchester, N. H. Don Proudman and Marge exchanged notes on London with us Burys, where we had missed connections in May. Left Bob Fall and Doris, up from Boston, early Sunday morning reading reports of the storm that swept up the Northeast Coast and wondering about shutters, awnings, basements, et al.

Red Cleaveland and Dorothy, LarryScammon and Ora, Hawl Patten and Mary, and Wil Shaw and Helen helped celebrate what may be our last Jolly Roger party if we can get in Hanover next fall.

Word from Don O'Hara is that the New York 1927 winter dinner is scheduled for the Dartmouth Club Wednesday, January 23. More on this later. Don Gardner reports that Sykes and Helen Hardy, CyOliver, Ding Heap and his wife, Charlieand Barbara Bartlett, Kay and Ken Ballantyne, Doane and Marie Arnold, Tom Anglem, Red Elliott, Fred Carver and SamWormser were spotted as part of the '27 contingent at the Harvard game by Don and Kaye Gardner. He also gives us the good news that Bill Prescott, who has been in the Newton-Wellesley Hospital, is now out of danger. We hope by the time you read this he is back on his feet again.

A teeth-chattering note from New Haven. '27 was out despite the worst game weather in years. Josh Davis was trainer at half time for the '27 squad, treating for exposure Sykes Hardy, Charlie and Barbara Bartlett,Doane and Marie Arnold from, a well equipped first aid wagon right at Portal 30. The Arnolds had all the little Arnolds with them, but they're no longer little - a fine looking family. Also spotted among the pneumonia candidates: Ed Baker, Ken Murray, Don McCall and Seth Besse.

See you in New York in January.
