Dartmouth football has been worth traveling a good distance for this fall. Among those in the '56 crowd at the Penn game in Hanover were Bob and Janet Castles and Bob MacKay. Bob and Janet drove up from Bellerose, N.Y. Bob is a c.p.a. with Arthur Young Co. But New York is nothing compared to Bob MacKay, who made the trip to Hanover from Geneva, Switzerland, combining it with a little business and a visit home. Bob is with the Geneva office of American Machine and Foundry Co. Doug Keare presented the main item of business at the class meeting held that weekend; this concerned the African student, Ahmed Osman. Along with plans for fund raising we discussed setting up arrangements for vacations. Ahmed will be staying with me over the Thanksgiving holidays. Get in touch with Doug if you wish to offer hospitality or support for the program. Doug incidentally has started studies for an advanced degree in Economics at Princeton. He and Ginger are living at 222-C Eisenhower St., Princeton. Others on the committee are Mott Hupfel, Clem Malin, Leo McKenna,Ab Oakes, and myself.
Busty Johnstone is back home after an impressive tour of jet flying for the Navy. He and Signy have two children, Grace, two and a half, and Hans, one and a half. They have been staying in Grafton with Dusty's folks while looking for a house in the Boston area. Dusty has just accepted a position with IBM in the Cambridge office. His tennis game is tougher than ever confirmed by about seven straight victories over me in the last two weeks and over Bob Rosebaum in Denver while they stopped to visit Bob and Nancy on the way east!
Bill Hansen and Janet Owens were married in Clarion, Pa., August 15 and are living in Germany. Bill is serving with the Army Medical Corps. Dean Hofe, who has been studying architecture in Providence, R. 1., married a Wellesley College graduate and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chisholm of Williamstown, Mass. Dean and his wife are living in New York City. The last Wha Who Whisper carried news via Bill Beagle of Tom Burris's wedding to Cary Ashlin Noview in Virginia on September 22. Bill Burget and Albertine Noble of Barrington, Ill., plan to be married this fall. Albertine is a Smith College graduate and is working in New York. Bill is teaching school in Manhattan.
Fred Duffield is a Navy Lieutenant and aviator at the Oceana Naval Air Station, Virginia Beach. Mike Molloy has moved from a company office in Taiwan to another firm located at Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands. Dick Weber has taken a position as an editor for the Convention Reference Book Company in Peoria, Ill. Bill Brister is with an advertising firm in New York City and is living at 125 West 86th Street. Ken and Sally Herrmann are in Atlanta, Ga., where Ken is a doctor with the Public Health Service. Bert Poritsky is a lawyer in Saint Paul. Fen Salter and DonFord are both California engineers. Fen is a consulting engineer for a San Francisco firm and is living in Mill Valley. Don is with Peter Kiewit Company in Van Nuys.
Former head class agent Glen French has been snatched from residency in Hanover where he has been an American Hospital Supply Corporation sales representative in New Hampshire and Vermont. But there's a happy part of this story too, for Glen has joined American Hospital Supply's corporate personnel staff at Evanston, Ill., headquarters to be recruiting and placement administrator. His primary duties will be in the recruitment and selection of management, sales, and technical personnel for AHSC and its affiliated companies. The French family now resides at 438 South Reuter Drive, Arlington Heights, Ill.
Terry Colby has started his law career as an associate with a New Haven firm and is living in Guilford, Conn. Curt and Phyllis Jones have moved to Whitefish Bay, Wis. Curt is with the Milwaukee office of Owens Corning Fiberglas. John Kirscher continues his studies in philosophy at Princeton and is living in Hopewell, N.J. Nils Larson is with Gillette in their Boston office. Nils and Anne recently moved to Islington, Mass. Norm and Anne Olsen have a son four months, old. They are living in Durham, N.C. Norm is working on his doctorate in American literature at Duke. Bruce and Dorothy Baekey have moved from Elizabeth to Morris Plains, N.J.
Skip Lenker is on the faculty of Cornell as Assistant Professor of Geology. Skip studied at Penn State on research grants from R.C.A. and the Mineral Conservation Department of the University and taught geology his last two years there. Skip received his doctorate last spring and spent the summer in Lima, Mont., on a field work project. Ken Rice has completed his tour as an officer in the Army. He and Marjorie are settling in Indianapolis where Ken has accepted a position with the Merchants Bank. Harry and Ann Mary Fetter and their three children have moved to Cliffside Park, N.J. Harry became pastor of the Congregational Church in Cliffside Park last June.
Will Sogg and Saralee Krow were married on August 12. Sari is in her second year at Western Reserve Graduate School of Social Sciences and will receive her Master's degree in social work next June. Correction to my October column: Will, in addition to his law practice, teaches "conflict of laws, jurisprudence, and municipal corporations," in English, not in Latin. Also my apologies for writing Howie Sandler's wife's name as Shirley instead of Helen. It must be this intense academic life!
Bob Danziger stopped by the Kappa Sig house when he and Sara were in Hanover this fall and was pleased to find that the award in memory of the late Slim Barnett continues to carry impressive prestige among the undergraduates. Last spring the name of David Walsh '62 from Dallas, Texas, was added to the plaque.
A good letter from Charlie Soule reports that all is well with Charlie and Elna and family of three, Kim starting school, Chuck Jr. three, and Jon one. They are living in Westboro, Mass.
I can highly recommend a New Year's holiday at the Dartmouth Ravine Lodge at Mount Moosilaukee for married as well as single and as a fine time for children. Write the D.O.C. if you are interested and if you don't mind some cold weather and snow. Christmas greetings to all.
