DARTMOUTH'S Director of the Office of Financial Aid, Robert K. Hage '35, has been appointed one of the two New England regional directors for the nationwide Community Talent Search sponsored by the National Scholarship Service and Fund for Negro Students. Hage and Dr. Richard King, director of the Office of Graduate and Career Plans at Harvard, will jointly direct the work of the regional office in addition to their regular college responsibilities. The purpose of the program is to help local communities establish programs to raise the educational sights and achievement of youth from all economically and culturally deprived groups, regardless of race or creed.
Hage and King will act in a consulting capacity with New England school systems in developing CTS programs to meet the special needs of each community wherever such assistance is requested. The CTS program grew out of the NSSFNS — inspired demonstration guidance project at Junior High School 43 in New York City. From this project there developed the 63-school Higher Horizons program now successfully operating in sixteen other cities and towns in New York state as well as in Washington, D. C., Philadelphia, and other cities.
