Tuss McLaughry, Dartmouth's head football coach from 1941 to 1955, last month was elected to the Football Hall of Fame, thus becoming one of 49 coaches to receive this highest gridiron honor. Upon relinquishing the football reins in 1955, Tuss became Professor of Physical Education and Associate Director of Athletics, and held these posts until his retirement in 1960.
Prior to taking the Big Green job, McLaughry for fifteen years was head coach at Brown, where he had the famous, undefeated "Eleven Iron Men" in 1926. He also coached at his alma mater, Westminster, and at Amherst, and in 1940 he directed the Eastern All-Star Team that defeated the New York Giants. He is a former president of the American Football Coaches Association and for many years was its secretary-treasurer.
