On December 13 (a Thursday - not a Friday) the Dartmouth Club of Sarasota had its first evening meeting of the season at the Sarasota Yacht Club. President BobHardy '25, presided and made the most important announcement ever .made to our Club: President John Dickey will be the guest of the Club on March 2, 1963. This is an announcement that the members have been eagerly awaiting for the last several years.
This first meeting, while not the best attended, is always looked forward to as an opportunity to see old friends and new acquaintances for the first time during the season. There were over thirty members present: old regulars like Warren Kendall '99, Bob Kenyon '07, Sumner Emerson '17, Al Catterall '21 and newcomers Dean Askew '27 and George McMillan '21. Also a guest from the far north, Boston, Ned McLaughlin '42.
Even though we had a very able speaker, the main topic of conversation, then and since, was that December 13, 1962 was the coldest day in Sarasota since 1899.
On January 22, the Club made its annual pilgrimage to Holmes Beach Yacht Club on Anna Maria Island. As usual we have Allan Brown '07 and Roger Brown '05, Bob Kenyon '07 and all the Anna Maria crowd to thank for a splendid meeting.
The program consisted of the movie. "Football Highlights of the 1962 Season," which was especially enjoyed because of the '62 record and by those of us who seldom get to see a game. This was a well-attended meeting with 45 present and it was good to see such people as Webster and Mrs. Garst '22, Bill Garland '54, Fred Baldwin '07, Gil Swett '17 and many others.
