How about that big pile of snow that must still be squatting out in the middle of the Green and looking with grim defiance like it would see the following fall's first snow fall or bust? Not a very nostalgic remembrance of April in Hanover, but I'll bet that pile is there nonetheless. Here's a hope that there's an unheard word ahead on someone you know.

Leaping headlong into the civic affairs of Geneva, Ill. is Jim Brannen. Jim has just been appointed Assistant County Supervisor of Geneva County and becomes the youngest man ever to hold that office. Jim finished a Master's degree in business administration from Northwestern a year ago, and prior to the Geneva appointment, had been working in the First National Bank of Chicago.

Despite the cold weather, guys just keep right on getting married. Dick Ossen and Phyllis Meil were married recently. LouPerullo married Joan Amshey in October and whisked his new bride away to Bermuda for a honeymoon at Carlton Beach. Reportedly, Joan has persuaded Lou to throw away his drumsticks, but stop and see for yourself if you're in Watertown, Mass. In November, Urban Hirschey and Sarah Hopkins were married in Syracuse. Urb says that being married sure beats Army life. Guess he means he's getting better meals now.

The Great Sigma Chi must have smiled proudly as some of his most illustrious advocates gathered early this year in Haledon, N.J., for the wedding of Don Stoddard and Mary Grundy. Undoubtedly making a disproportionate contribution to the festivities were: Spence Morgan, Dave Haight, JohnAdams, and Bob Reid. Don and Mary spent their honeymoon in Nassau, but are now living in Metuchen, N.J., with Donald employed in the sales department of Westinghouse Corp.

Joe Black and Nancy Garelick joined forces on December 30 in Beverly, Mass. Joe is in his third year at Tufts Dental School trying to find out where the yellow comes from.

All these nuptials make the mind reel, but there is even more. Ray Keating and Jean Woodard were married in early January. Ray earned a Master's at Boston University Business School and will have a splendid opportunity to build on this academic foundation as a member of the U.S. Army.

A secret message reports that Jim Haught is operating a "bachelor's paradise in Cohoes, N.Y. As a sideline, Jim is teaching history at plush Shaker High School there (nothing less than carpets in the halls). RichStrehle, complete with a Madison Avenue address, is with the accounting department of CBS-TV. Rich completed his Master's in business at Rutgers. Gene and Judy Kohn have added a daughter, Janet Helen, to their issue (born Dec. 26).

How about a survey of some of the nation's great legal minds? Mike Menaker and Arnie Sigler receive degrees from University of Virginia Law School in June, where both have been named to legal honoraries. Coincidentally, Mike and Arnie are going to work for the same law firm on Wall Street beginning next September, but before that, Mike is heading off to wander about Europe, and Arnie has to get acquainted with a new baby daughter, Gretchen. Tom Andrews is at Duke Law School; Dick Aronsohn at Rutgers; Tom Grow at the University of Texas; Roger Hanlon at Cornell; and Tom Huyck at the University of Chicago.

Nathan Witham - carrying the banner of Maine as the first native son to enlist in the Peace Corps - has had to suspend his English teaching duties in the Dominican Republic to undergo surgery in Puerto Rico. Hope all is well, Nate, and you're back on the job soon. Bob Christopher is working as a staff announcer on a TV station in Twin Falls, Idaho. Charlie Butler is working as an accountant for General Electric in Philadelphia. Walt and Sara Lee Freedman are living outside of Chicago in Deerfield, Ill., with Walt working for IBM in Evanston, Ill. John Goodman is working as a physicist for the Polaroid Corp. in Cambridge, Mass. Pete Hubert is basking at Hermosa Beach, Calif., while working as a product engineer for the Crouse-Hinds Co. in Los Angeles. Pete Klaren is doing graduate work in history at UCLA. Dave Lodge is working as a stock broker for a brokerage in Detroit, Mich. Paul Oltman is studying architecture at the University of Oregon.

But now the sun is setting in the west with another piece of class news having been set forth, and our thoughts turn to Lieutenant Fred Celce - now qualified as a combat ready pilot of the new F-100 supersonic sabre jets — up above in the blue, guarding our freedom, our heritage, our very lives ... and Man! that's something we'd better think about. (No malice, Fred, we're with you all the way.)

By the way, another member of our Armed Forces, Lieutenant Bill Batt, starts his campaign for the Alumni Fund this month. I hope you will all help Bill by responding quickly to his appeals, for after all, where does our country's freedom begin if it's not on the campus of colleges like Dartmouth? The Class and Dartmouth need and deserve your support. Let's make it the biggest year ever for '60.
