Albert B. Washburn has been manager and conducted the business of Brooks and Washburn Company, Inc. of Bethel, Vt., since 1918 and has been associated with it since 1913. This year marks the 84th year of the family-conducted business and the 50th for Al. On March 29 the business was transferred with its entire assets and good will to Mr. and Mrs. Donald C. Hadd of Randolph. The Brooks and Washburn store is a part of the history of the White River Valley. It is the oldest continuing firm in the Valley area. It has seen the ebb and flow and changes of nearly a century and has weathered three wars, six recessions, and a major flood. Al has been serving the grandchildren of its early customers. With leisure now we look for Al and Gladys Washburn on lune 14.
The Maiden, Mass., News has printed the news we gave you here and in the Class News Letter about Dave Morey and the inclusion of his name with Jim Thorpe, Mickey Cochrane, Sam Chapman, Jackie Jensen, etc., Dave was the only Maiden man, was Ail-American football in college and went on to make the major leagues in baseball. The Sports Whirl of Roy Carroll had it in March.
Bill English's son, Director Robert English of Green Mountain College Choir, had his chorus join with the St. Michael s College Male Chorus group to present an 80-combined voice concert in Rutland, Vt., on April 30.
You should have received our 50th Year Report when you read this. It was prepared and printed in time to go to you in May at the request of President Line Wilson, and Reunion Chairman, Bill Towler. You can tell now what many of you will see in Hanover, are doing, whether retired or not. A number of men may be surprised at their biographies for we had to write many from our file record and with the help of Miss Alyce Robertson, Alumni Recorder, in Hanover.
May 3-4 was the Class Officers meetings and Bob Conant, Bill Terry, and WardeWilkins were present. This year Bill Towler as reunion chairman for the June reunion was invited to attend. There was also a reunion committee meeting at which Fred Page and Harry French joined the above classmates.
Parker Trowbridge was hospitalized in April in Worcester and Ken Baker in February in Rhinebeck, N. Y. We hope both will be out for the big weekend in June, this month.
We'll see you June 14. Think of all those you would like to see and those who want to find you there.
