Two engagements involving '58's have been announced since preparation of the February column. Planning to be married in April are Miss Olivia Hood of Brookline, Mass., and John Parker. In June, Miss Georgia Taggart and Jim Brackett will tie the matrimonial knot. Jim is now at the University of Pennsylvania Dental School.
Dexter Faunce was recently appointed vice president of a Boston stock brokerage firm, Security Planners Associates, Inc. In addition to maintaining a large sales organization, the company also underwrites and serves as investment advisor to the Technical Fund, Inc., a Boston-based mutual fund. In his new position, Dex will be responsible for coordinating sales activities and advertising promotions. He and Joan and their ten-month- old son, Philip, now live in North Quincy. Also holding down a vice president's position is Don Klages, who is with a chain of high class men's retail clothing stores in California. Don and wife Deanne recently bought a home in Sunnyvale.
Selected for the newly created position of senior planner for the city of Vancouver, Wash., was Sumner Sharpe. Following graduation from Dartmouth, Sumner obtained a master's degree in regional planning at Cornell in 1960 and then performed graduate research at the London School of Economics. Later, as a member of the Peace Corps, he taught planning at Chulalonghorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.
Mel Alperin, who is vice president of the Crescent Company of Rhode Island, was recently elected to the board of directors of the Jewish Family and Children's Service in West Warwick, R. I. In addition to these activities, Mel is a member of the board of directors of the Rhode Island Dartmouth Alumni Association and is presently campaign chairman of the Young Leadership division for the General Jewish Committee.
Three former classmates now are employed as Account Executives by Benton and Bowles Advertising Agency in New York. Included in this category are Dan Wilkes, Larry Hampton, and Norm Sylvester. Of particular interest is the fact that Larry has been assigned the rather enviable task of handling B & B's recruiting at Dartmouth/Tuck.
Dick Shanaman is now an assistant vice president of the Bank of California in San Francisco. Dick and Betty and their daughter, now two years old, live in Menlo Park. Also in the banking business in California is Joe Seott, who is with the Security First National Bank in Los Angeles. Working for Textile Banking Co. in New York City is Paul Jameson.
Mey Armstrong is currently a security officer, performing in addition, other functions of personnel work at Reflectone Electronics in Stamford, Conn. Don Mansfield is a claims adjuster for Allstate Insurance Company, living in Lindenhurst, N. Y. JimPringle is a taxonomist at Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Dick Harris was recently promoted to Brand Man on New Products in Procter & Gamble's Toilet Goods Division.
In other miscellaneous news, John Good-now is at Boston University Law School. Stu Rice is an actor at the Cleveland Playhouse. Phil Wood is a Law Clerk in Grand Rapids, Mich. Dr. Sam Silverstein is an interne at Colorado General Hospital in Denver. Don Shagrin works for Bache & Co., stockbrokers in New York City.
Third and final billings for class dues have recently been mailed by Class Treasurer Gary Finerty. This money is used not only to pay for the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, but also for other class operating - such as postage, telephone, etc. It is essential in order to meet our expenditure commitments that all dues be collected, so if you haven't yet forwarded your check, let's do so as soon as possible.
