Well, by now Bill Hartley is safely in London leading the fascinating life of a foreign correspondent for the Wall Street lournal ... so I am now taking my first crack at writing the column. I now know what Kit. Ken, and Bill used to complain about! It's tough writing a column when you don't have much news to report, so please, take a minute and drop me a line and let me know what's happening in your lives.

Phil and Ruth Calkins had an addition to their family back in November. The day after their son Bradley was born the Calkins moved into a new house on Mercer Island. Phil is now in the Sales Department of the Boeing Co. in Seattle, working in International Market Research.

Dr. David Leibowitz is now completing his second year of Residency in Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Dave writes that he is now preparing for press, a report on "Intercostal Hernia of the Lung."

Kit and Barbara Cowperthwaite announced the birth of their first child, Scott Charles, back in October. After completing a tour of duty with the Judge Advocate General's Office in Germany, where he and Barbara were married, Kit has returned to Denver where he is practicing law. In addition to his private practice, Kit has been appointed an Assistant State Attorney General and Counsel for the State Department of Agriculture. In addition to this, he writes, he is also doing work for the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. This latter job has the possibility of a trip to Honolulu some time this spring to represent the state before the Interstate Commerce Commission. This sounds like one of the better fringe benefits!

Pete and Ellie Durno announced the birth of their third child, Craig Field. Pete is now assistant cashier and credit manager of the National Bank of Detroit. He and Ellie are still living in Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.

Art Lindenauer was recently made a manager at Price Waterhouse's New York City office.

Dr. Buz Nathanson and family moved to Washington, D. C., recently. Buz is stationed at Andrew's Air Force Base.

Dr. John Gundy writes that he "would welcome any visiting Dartmouth voices in this wilderness." John is a pediatrician stationed at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Ala.

Murray Heifer writes that he is now the manager of the bookkeeping department of the Merchants National Bank of Syracuse, N. Y.

The list of unmarrieds continue to dwindle. Dr. Walter Anyan was married in November to Carol Ann Smith in Tampa, Fla. After finishing Harvard Medical School, Walter is now a post-doctoral fellow at Yale University School of Medicine. JohnLeahy and Maureen Kennedy were married this fall. John is with the Western Electric Co. in Andover, Mass. He and Maureen are making their home in Saugus. GarySykes and Marilyn Heatherton were married recently. Gary is the manager of the Bloomfield, N. J., office of Laidlaw & Co., private bankers and members of the New York Stock Exchange. Ted Kleinman and Carol Sue Cole were married in Kansas City this summer. A Ted sums it up, "Oh! How the mighty have fallen!"

On to other news. Rev. Carl McCall was named chairman of the Council Against Poverty in New York City by Mayor Lindsay. Carl was appointed to the board as a representative of the Taconic Foundation, a private philanthropic organization. After leaving Dartmouth, Carl attended Edinburgh University and received his theology degree from Andover-Newton Theological School.

George Haines is coming home after a three-year tour as vice consul at our Consulate General in Duesseldorf, Germany. George has had an interesting three years. He writes that his first six months were spent as a diplomatic courier during which he traveled 250,000 miles by train, boat, plane, car and foot through nearly every country, between Dublin, Moscow, Oslo, and Pretoria. As he puts it, "it was a great way to break into the foreign services." George married Ellen Neimer of Duesseldorf this summer and will take her to Washington when he starts his new job as an intelligence and research specialist to the National Inter-Departmental Seminar at the Foreign Service Institute.

Dr. Edward Caress and family are now living in a new house in Annandale, ya. Ed is teaching organic chemistry and doing some research at George Washington University in Washington, D. C.
