Subsequent to our going to press for the October issue, news was received of additional '58 weddings. On August 3, in Concord, Mass., Miss Cheryl D. Smethurst and Dave Pratt exchanged nuptial vows. Dave, following a tour of duty in the Navy and a brief stint in the mutual fund business, has joined the sales force of International Paper Co. In Greenwich, Conn., the former Miss Linda O. Berry and John Trimble were married on Sept. 7. John is with the Fidelity Union Trust Co. in Newark, N. J. He and Linda now live in Upper Montclair.
Planning to follow a similar course are Miss Joanne Leone and Mike Bzullak. Their engagement was announced in August. Mike now works for the System Development Corporation located at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey.
Back again in Hanover is the Rev. PrestonT. Kelsey. Upon graduation from Dartmouth, Pete obtained his B.D. degree at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, Calif. Prior to assuming his present position, he was curate at the Church of the Transfiguration and vicar of St. Ambrose Mission, both in San Mateo, Calif., and, during the past year, was on the staff of St. Peter's Church, Redcar, Diocese of York, England.
July 5 was the date of the arrival of Amy Gearhart, whose parents, Ellie and PeteDurno and brother, Geoffrey, now reside in Grosse Pointe, Mich. (Amy lives there too.) Congratulations are also due John andMary Durkin, proud parents of a daughter, Tracy Elizabeth, born August 26, in Columbus, Ohio.
I received a picture of the '58's in attendance at Brad Hubert's annual Dartmouth Summer Picnic, held at his home in suburban Detroit. Dave Moss, current president of the Dartmouth Alumni Club of Detroit, was in Hanover for the training session for such officials held over the weekend of the Bucknell game. Dave now sells life insurance for Massachusetts Mutual. He and Jo have one son, Stephen.
Army captains, both of whom are doctors, Joel Potash and Clem Marks recently completed two-week medical officer orientation courses at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Training consisted of military procedures, field medical service, and general military medical activities. Enrolled in what appears to be comparable instruction for Air Force Officers was Captain (Dr.) Wylie T. Scott. Upon graduation, Wylie obtained his M.D. degree at the University of Pittsburgh and was associated with Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, prior to entering the Air Force.
Jay Clark, who now lives in Tuckahoe, N. Y., with his wife and one child, was recently promoted to the newly created position of director of communications at the National Bank of Westchester in White Plains. Jay joined the bank earlier this year as assistant advertising and public relations manager, following his employment at the New York Daily News, which was interrupted by a hitch in the Coast Guard. He is also publicity and publications chairman of the Westchester Chapter of the American Institute of Banking. In his new post, Jay will be responsible for all internal and external publications at the bank.
Ray Hilsinger is now in the process of completing his final year at the University of Cincinnati Medical School. Ray spent the past summer as an extern at Munson Hospital in Traverse City, Mich. Speaking of hospitals in Michigan, Dr. Robert H. (Bob)Rudolph is now at University Hospital in Ann Arbor. Bob had been at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Dr. Jack Wolper is at Genesee Hospital in Rochester, N. Y.
Hank Milton, who lives in Hamden, Conn., is currently a District Sales Representative for Texaco, Inc. in the New Haven area. Jim Geier holds a similarly titled position for International Business Machines in Wheeling, West Va. Kurt Wegelius is a salesman for Scott Paper Co. In Bridgeton, Mo. Clay Freeman presently demonstrates, displays, and, ostensibly, sells Head Skis.
The Boston banking community has absorbed at least two '58's. Richard H. (Church)Pew is in the midst of a training program at State Street Bank and Trust Co. He also made the "rep" touch football club. DickOsgood, who had been in the trust department of Northern Trust Co., in Chicago, following graduation from Tuck School, recently joined the banking end of the First National Bank of Boston. Also in the Boston area are Charles C. Winchester Jr., who is an associate lawyer at Fish, Richardson & Neave, and J. David Connell, who is presently the assistant treasurer of Skelly Detective Service, Inc. which performs armored car, security guard, and investigating services.
Many former classmates have returned to the academic atmosphere as professors, instructors, teachers, etc. At Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N. Y., David L.Livingstone is an instructor in the Department of Languages and Literature. Sigmund(Sig) Hudson is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Syracuse University. Robert H. (Bob) Lafleur is Woodrow Wilson Instructor in History at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va. Steve NicholsJr. is an Assistant Professor in the French Department of the University of California at Los Angeles.
Charlie Pierce has joined the staff of the History Department at Mount Hermon School. He and his wife, Caroline, and two daughters, Carrie-Lee and Hillary, are living in a Freshman Cottage on compus. Charlie recently completed five years' service in the Air Force.
