This month the social register has provided us with but one item of information concerning '58's. The engagement of Miss Doris B. Krebs and Lieutenant Bryant Barnard, now a physician in the Navy Medical Corps, was announced in early September. Bryant, who returned recently from Vietnam, is now stationed at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, N. H.
Dick Jackson is doing very well with West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co. Dick was recently promoted to the position of personnel services manager in their Fine Papers Division. The Division is comprised of four paper mills: Mechanicville, N. Y.; Tyrone and Williamsburgh, Pa.; and Luke, Md. Dick began his career with the company in 1960 as a personnel trainee and had progressed to the position of employee training and safety manager at the Luke mill, which he had held since August, 1964. In his new post, Dick will work out of the company's home office in New York City. His duties will include all phases of personnel activity in the division and coordination of its college recruiting program. The Jacksons, including two children, are now living in Noroton Heights, Conn.
The college news service has announced that Larry Schwartz, who is now president of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Long Island, has been elected to the executive committee of the Dartmouth Club Officers Association. Larry, who received his master's degree in electrical engineering at Thayer in 1959, has been with Airborne Instruments Laboratory of Melville, N. Y., since that time. The Schwartzes live in Plainview.
The University of Wisconsin News and Publications Service informs us that SteveNichols, who has been a member of the French department at the University of California at Los Angeles, has been named an associate professor at Wisconsin. Before going to Yale to earn his Ph.D. degree, Steve studied at the University at Aix-en-Provence. In his new position, he will teach courses in contemporary criticism, medieval literature, and masterpieces of western literature. Editor of a new series of volumes in comparative literature, Prof. Nichols has written "Formulaic Diction and Thematic Composition in the 'Chanson de Roland' and The Songs of Bernard de Ventadorn' " in collaboration.
Several other former classmates have assumed important positions in the academic ranks. Among them is Joe Livermore, who is presently an assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota Law School in Minneapolis. John Voll is an instructor in the history department at the University of New Hampshire. John did his graduate work at Harvard. Leon Sinclair is a teaching assistant in English at the University of Washington. Hal Knapp is teaching high school history in Westwood, N. J. Hal and Carol, who live in Glen Rock, at last report, had one daughter, Kristin. Dan Varty, who had also been teaching high school history, is presently a graduate student working on his Ph.D. degree in history. Dan and Libby are living in Mountain View, Calif.
We might look for a few moments at former classmates now in the world of business. Barry Hildebrandt is a market analyst in the New England Division of Scott Paper Company, located in Boston. Dave Clarke is a market research analyst for Ayerst Laboratories, Inc. Dave is living in Glen Ridge, N. J. Dick Ballinger is a supervisor of advertising and promotion for the National Broadcasting Company in New York. GerryThompson is working as a product engineer for the Link Belt Company in Indianapolis. Bill Tindal is a design engineer, working with prestressed concrete for Concrete Materials, Inc. in Charlotte, N. C. Bill and Gretchen now have two children.
Louis Bloorafield is an assistant actuary in Cleveland and has obtained his law degree at Marshall Law School in that city. Louis and Jean have a daughter, Karen. Steve Gutman is now an accountant, working for S. D. Leidesdorf in New York City. Chuck Lewis is a certified public accountant, employed by Arthur Andersen & Co. in Denver. Chuck is a vice president of the United States Ski Association, serving as president of the Rocky Mountain Division.
The number of physicians which our class has produced appears to be countless. Among them, several are situated in Boston, which prides itself on being the location of several outstanding hospitals and medical centers. Included in this group is Dr. BobTimothy, who recently completed a tour of duty in the Navy, and is now a resident in urology at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. Bob and Martha and their three children now live in West Roxbury. Dr. John McHugfa is a senior medical resident at the Veterans Hospital in Boston. Dr. Art Neiterman is a physician at the same hospital. Dr. Mike Cohen is a research fellow in neurology at Harvard Medical School and Boston Children's Hospital Medical Center.
Capt. Lee Wight, who recently completed his residency requirements at the University of North Carolina hospital, is now a pediatrician at Kirk Army Hospital at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. Lee and Janet have two children. Dr. John Wfaiteley is a resident physician in pathology in Hatboro, Pa. John and Kim have three boys. Dr. Ed Fineberg is a resident at Philadelphia General Hospital. Ed interned at the University of Pennsylvania hospital and served in the Army medical corps at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama.
Dr. Wylie Scott is a resident in surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Dr.Pete Williamson is a resident in neurology at Yale _ New Haven Medical Center. Dr.Bill Smith, who recently graduated from Boston University Medical School, is now an intern at Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington, Vt. Dr. Tom Talley, formerly an intern at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N. Y., is now stationed at the Marine Corps' Mountain Warfare Training Center at Bridgeport, Calif.
