November is here and things have settled down again after the scramble to get all the kids back in school;... and your secretary is again looking for news!

Promotions are in the news this month. Hal Douglas has recently been appointed supervisor, agency department at the Portland, Ore., casualty and surety division of Aetna Life & Casualty. Hal joined Aetna in 1958 in Springfield, Ill., and has served as a field representative at Portland for the past year. Joe Palermo has recently been appointed superintendent of NOROC coatings department, protective products division, Norton Company. He will be responsible for manufacturing, product engineering and the sales of coating materials and NOROC coated products. Joe has been with Norton Company since July, 1966. Dave Murphy has been elected vice-president and general manager of the Paine Furniture Company of Boston. After leaving Dartmouth, Dave went on to the University of North Carolina Law School then to Columbia Graduate School of Business.

In the field of finance, Bill Manning, an account executive with the Rochester office of Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith, has been elected to become a stockholder of this brokerage firm. Bill has been with Merrill Lynch since 1961. He and his wife Marilyn are making their home in Elmira, N. Y., along with their four children. The Franklin National Bank of New York recently appointed Ward Burian as an assistant vicepresident. Ward is working in the bank's Hanover Square office in Manhattan in the investment department. After Dartmouth Ward received his M.B.A. at New York University School of Business Administration.

Now to the higher echelons of learning. ... Andy Peterson has been promoted to assistant professor of accounting at Bentley College, and Ralph Manuel, who is working in the admissions office at the College at the present time, received his Master of Education degree from Boston University School of Education his summer. The Reverend John Mehl was awarded the James A. Jones Memorial Fellowship for Graduate Study at the Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va. John is a candidate for the Master of Theology degree. Temple University has announced that Dr. Peter W. Good-win is being awarded one of the six grants by the Lindback Foundation for distinguished teaching over the past years. Peter is an assistant professor of geology at Temple. After graduating from Dartmouth he went on to get his Master of Science degree in Geology from the State University of lowa in 1961 and his Doctor of Philosophy degree from that University in 1964. He has been at Temple since 1963 where, in addition to his teaching duties, he is a member of the Academic Advising Board and a Basic Studies Course chairman. He is also Building Committee chairman for the University's Basic Studies Science Building. Sounds like more than enough to keep one man busy!

That's about all for this month. We should have more details for our coming Big Tenth in next month's notes. Please drop me a note when you find a minute. See you next month!
