The Providence Journal gave Rick Worrell a fine write-up after his election last fall to the Providence City Council. Rick and his running mate Joe Souza succeeded in giving Ward 1 Republican leadership for the first time in 26 years. The paper quotes Rick as follows: "My philosophy is to try to apply your mind and energies completely — to go at it with a total commitment. That way, if you win it's wonderful, and if you lose you have no regrets." Rick's interests are "toward persuading the Providence Redevelopment Agency to include . . . Fox Point - India Point area within the ... renewal plan," also "to promote greater use of the Port of Providence and... to seek tighter enforcement of the city's minimum housing code," and "to educate the tenants on their rights." Rick told the paper that at one point the election reminded him of the 1960 Bermuda to Sweden race when the going got tough the third day out. Rick really worked hard and has done a good job. Rick reports that Tom and MargaretGidley's new child is a son, Thomas Edwin "Teddy."

It was good to have a full report from Ken and Barbara Thomas at Christmas time. "Ken is half way through his fourth year of surgical residency and will be greeting the new year by coming out of the laboratory. He has been doing cardiovascular and transplantation work with dogs and is now writing papers which should show some of the year's efforts. The switch back to the wards will be rather traumatic for both of us since we're now used to his coming home every night - and he doesn't even have to be at the 1ab till 8 a.m. - it's been tremendous! I'm still teaching speech pathology at W.V.U. and am enjoying it. This semester I'm teaching three courses and supervising the clinic. We have a good group of students who are eager to learn." Ken and Barbara are living in Morgantown, West Va.
