A strong offense and a questionable defense will characterize Coach Whitey Burnham's varsity soccer team this fall. The days of outstanding defense (Dartmouth has been rough in this department of late) are gone. Whitey states his case briefly and to the point: "We must rely on outscoring our opposition. It will take time to build a new defense around a new goalie."
Over a ten-game schedule these players should serve well. Captain Edmund "Skip" Harvey at center halfback is a definite All-Ivy candidate. Right halfback Bill Smoyer, an All-Ivy second choice as a junior, is another top candidate. Smoyer is steady on land or on ice as a fine hockey performer.
In the Ivy League last season Coach Burnham was 3-4. His team was 5-5 in all games. There are ten returning lettermen.
