It is hoped, naturally, that by the time you read this each of you have sent in your Alumni Fund contribution, but on the chance that you are still faced with the borderline decision of how much you can afford, you might give some thought to "why." Many of us are apt to think of Alumni Fund drives in terms of our loyalty to the college or memories of good times, or whatever past associations mean to you. This does, of course, play a part in judgments of contributions. Of much greater importance, however, is the value you are receiving - right now — in sending dollars to Hanover. This value is based upon the age in which we live; an age where scientific achievement in the field of defense can mean life or death, not only to us but to our future generations; an age where progress in industry can mean starvation or comfort; an age where medicine can provide a longer, more fruitful life and an age where we must provide the best teachers for our children and their children. These are the functions which your dollars provide with all other reasons for giving thrown in for good measure. The Alumni Fund is as vital a part of your cost of living as your food bill! Why not send in your check to Hanover today.

We have just received word that John Lee has changed his address and now lives at 48 Gramercy Park, New York 10, N.Y. John is the Product Manager for Lipton Soups and Wishbone Salad Dressings and is mainly responsible for those cute TV commercials and good looking magazine advertisements showing children drawing chickens and eggs and things like that. This is the long way around of saying that his creativity in the area of selling food is really paying off for the Thomas Lipton Co.

An issue or so ago we posed a question to Dave Squire on the report that he is 34 years old. Dave was kind enough to reply that the whole thing was a misprint and that he was not a child prodigy who had achieved a college education by age 19. (Dave reports that he is 37 and would prefer to forget the whole matter. We agree.)

From Danvers, Mass., comes news of BobIves, who is running for a second term as Town Moderator. The title of Town Moderator means the presiding officer at town meetings and Bob apparently brings a great deal of ability to this job. When not running for re-election Bob has his own insurance business. He has been President of both the Danvers Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce and is a great proponent of efficient and democratic town meetings. He is referred to as "Abe" (Lincoln) due to his erect posture, mannerisms, and his ability to take an impartial position on all issues and appointments. Of course, if this continues, we expect to see Bob at the next reunion with a nice growth of chin whiskers in order to make the comparison complete.

Some months back it was reported that Dick Hill Jr. of Montpelier, Vt., had been elected a director and regional councilor of the Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee Region Association, a promotional organization for West Central New Hampshire. This, of course, puts Dick in a position to enjoy top notch skiing in the winter and lovely swimming, boating, fishing in the summer. It has now been determined, however, that he really has all climatic conditions pretty well covered. Being elected to the National Life Insurance Company's 1963 President's Club made him eligible for attendance at the club's annual education conference held in March, in, of all places, Hollywood, Fla. When you really stop to think of it, March is about the only month that needed to be taken care of and certainly this is a fine way to do it.

George Carroll, a partner in the law firm of Carroll and Lane (or is it Lane and Carroll?) in Norwalk, Conn., also serves as prosecuting attorney of the Norwalk District Circuit Court. George served as Executive Secretary to the late Senator Brien McMahon. From 1955 through 1960 he was a Judge and prosecutor of the Norwalk City Court. Supposedly, ethics would forbid it, but it might be interesting to see partner John Lane as the defense attorney during one of George's prosecuting bits. George and Julie, his wife, have three offspring - Charles, Robert, and Julie Ann and live on Comstock Hill Avenue in Norwalk.

It was bound to happen some day, the only point being why it took so long. JulieSayer, formerly with Restaurant Associates, has now opened his own liquor distribution company. The "Bear" has specifically promised all classmates that if a severe drought should settle over the land he would be only too happy to take up the slack at just an eentsy, teentsy profit for himself. We do wish Julie all the success in the world in this new undertaking.

A recent edition of the Squaw-ker enclosed a questionnaire for Dartmouth wives. It is with great delight that we received "Obie" O'Brien's answer instead of Hugh Chapin. Obie's wife, Anne, has a delightful sense of humor and it was with complete selfishness that we did not pass it along to Hugh that we could usurp some of the comments for reading here. As most of you know, the O'Briens hold the class record with twelve children. Under the question "Who paints, fishes, does Dad play golf, collect stamps, walk the dog?" Anne answers, "Dad paints - the house; Dad and Mom fish - for bargains; Dad plays golf with a grass hook and the boys caddy with a lawn mower; of course, we all collect stamps —• blue chip or green stamps; the dog is old enough to walk himself." Under "What is the funniest or happiest vacation memory" the answer reads, "Our ten-thousand-mile trip back east with our 11 children and a dog in a 1954 Ford station wagon, on a rosary and a credit card. Chuckles from the policeman in New York who wanted to know if we brought the whole town." Am sure Hugh will quote more of the answers in a forthcoming Squaw-ker. Our special thanks to Anne for the privilege of getting to know the O'Brien family even in this small way.

Don't forget the Alumni Fund, and write when you get work.
