You should be reading this either just before or just after the greatest reunion the class has ever had. Having been privy to some of the plans, we can make that prediction with little fear that it will not come true. Even though the goodies offered at the reunion come in at a very inexpensive price, it might be wise, if you have not done so, to send in your Alumni Fund contribution before you become stoney broke. Our great class agent, Townes Harris, who has been laboring mightily for six years to produce a good showing in the Alumni Fund, deserves to go out in a blaze of glory which only you can accomplish.
Our famous poet, Phil Booth, who when last heard of was teaching at Syracuse, was one of nine American writers to receive an award and a grant from the National Institute of Arts and Letters at a presentation dinner on May 24. Very much like to hear from Phil to find out his current status and what his plans are for the $2,500 grant.
The Celanese Corporation is to be congratulated on getting Bob Prochaska to leave General Electric after 16 years. He will take on the job of vice president of development for the Celanese Plastics Company. The position will involve research and development and commercial development functions. He will resign his positions on the Stockbridge School Committee, the Berkshire Regional School District Committee, and the Massachusetts Board of Trustees of State Colleges. We wish him the best of luck.
The G. Fox Department Store in Hartford, Conn., plans to open a new branch in Waterbury and has named John F. Day to be manager. John is presently department manager of the interior design and contract division. During his 14 years at G. Fox, he has supervised the designing and decorating of the Hartford National Bank and Trust Co., Emhart Corp., the Travelers Insurance Co., and the Greater Hartford Chamber of Commerce. He has been a past president of the Hartford Dartmouth Alumni Association and the Conn. Chapter of the National Society of Interior Decorators and is a member of the Rotary Club of Greater Hartford.
One of our amateur thespians, Bill Knight, starred in the Needham, Mass., Community Theatre's April production of the Broadway comedy, "Never Too Late." He has also played Fiorello LaGuardia in the musical "Fiorello," plus leading roles in "Come Blow Your Horn" and "For Love Or Money."
Townes Harris has sent an interesting clipping from the Providence, R. I., area which mentions that Ralph Warburton was chairman of the 60th Anniversary Military Ball. Ralph, who is adjutant of the Varnum Continentals, did very well with the entertainment for this ball as he does in all the many other activities he undertakes.
Joe Scandore has produced the nominations for the class executive committee which will be open to your vote at the reunion on Saturday, June 17. The nominations are as follows: Al Bildner, Doug Burch, Hugh Chapin, Norm Fink, Alan Hall, Townes Harris, Bob Harvey, Joe Kurey, Bruce Mather, Ed Senghas, and Jack
Keep in mind that the nominations will also be open from the floor at that meeting.
Don't forget to make this Townes Harris' banner year. The check should be made payable to the Dartmouth Alumni Fund.
