There is a rumor floating around that after the 50th Reunion class contributions to the Alumni Fund tend to decrease each year. The class of 1935 may be different in this respect because in the fiscal year 1994 we contributed $145,182, which exceeded our record of $133,731 set in 1993, which in turn had broken the old 1992 record of $129,937.
After several family visits around the country, Ed Mitchell tripped and fell in a restaurant parking lot (sober) and broke his right leg. Nevertheless, he and Done are still looking forward to their extended visit to London. While on a trip to the West Coast Beaand Dero Saunders had a very pleasant visit with Ed and Maysel Ramsey in Corona Del Mar followed by a luncheon in L.A. with a healthy-looking Rudy Pacht and his wife, Helen. Will Gahagan continues to keep himself and Lorna fully occupied with a wide variety of activities, particularly playing tennis and promoting the works of poet Robert Frost. [Seepage 12.—Ed.] At 82 he says that "the two bring a sense of balance to my life." He also claims to have lowered his sights (questionable) on a USTA Gold Ball, but will accept two Silver Balls instead.
Your correspondent belatedly reports the death of classmates Gordon Hislop, CharlieHuston, Bernie Jank off and Sam Sammis.
Unfortunately, it seems to be difficult to come up with any solid statistics about the class. We know that 472 received diplomas in June of 1935 and that 46 earned degrees at a later date, thus putting the total number of graduates at 518. An additional 173 matriculated, which brought the number of alumni to 691, or to 699 if eight adopted members are added. However, the College adds another group of at least 19 honorary members, a strange category somewhat related to donors of anonymous gifts. Without attempting to account for the adopted or honorary members, 313 of those who matriculated (including roughly 225 graduates) are living and well. This by itself may be something of a record.
Looking ahead to our 60th, the date has been fixed for Monday-Wednesday, June 12-14, 1995. Bill Fitzhugh and DonRadasch will be in charge with Dick Hube acting as treasurer. As a class we are healthy, wealthy, and wise enough to break the record for the largest attendance at a 60th reunion. Please advise Dick Hube or your secretary of any recent address or status changes you may know of as Dick is presently engaged in compiling a complete address directory of living members and widows, including a geographical list plus the names of all deceased members.
