From Florida comes word that among the 72 Dartmouth men, their wives and guests, who attended the March luncheon meeting of the Dartmouth Club of Sarasota, were "permanent Sarasotans" George andGertrude Gregory, Gil and Jane Swett, and Sumner and Charlotte Emerson. The LeonCones drove down from their home in Sun City while Bill and Helen Birtwell drove up from Englewood where they are spending the season. And an Honorary Seventeener Charlotte Ford Morrison and husband Hugh '26 drove up from their own home on Siesta Key. The Class of 1917 had the largest attendance at this gathering.

This is the third Club affair that GilSwett, as secretary of the Sarasota Dartmouth Club, has so far run during this happily busy season. A fourth and final dinner for this season will have transpired by the time this magazine goes to print.

Sum Emerson, among his other activities, is on the Board of Trustees of "New College of Sarasota" - an unusually interesting liberal arts college, now in its second year, with entrance requirements not unlike Dartmouth's.

While in Sarasota Don and Marion O'l eary not only had cocktails at the Swetts' with the Emersons, but also attended the Dartmouth luncheon.

The Emersons and Swetts have both signed up for the August "Alumni College" — this being Gil's third or "junior" year.

On March 21, while at sea on the "M.S. Sagafjord," Walt Walters wrote as follows, "We have had a great 'Round the World Cruise.' African shore trips to Victoria Falls, the game areas in Kenya (Nairobi), the different tribes of natives and the mountains and veldt were thrilling! I took about 200 Kodachrome slides there and a total of about 500 on the trip. We flew around northern and central India — Benares, Agra, New Delhi, Bombay and north to Nepal (Katmandu), Ceylon, Borneo, Zamboanga (Philippines), Bangkok, Hong Kong, Japan, and on March 23 we leave the ship in Honolulu. We will spend three weeks in the Islands, then fly to Key Biscayne (Miami) for three weeks with our boys. Then home to Rochester May 10." Walt and Phoebe are really seeing some far-awayplaces!

Roger Stone writes that, "I retired from my job of many years at the United Com- munity Services organization in Boston just about a year ago. After loafing for 2 or 3 months I started in again on a full time job, and it really is a fact that I am working harder now than I think I ever did before."

It may seem early to begin thinking about our fall weekend but it is necessary because of the early date of the party - Thursday, September 22 to Sunday, September 25. The early date is not of our choosing but at any rate, September is normally a beautiful season in Vermont. And by the way, the party will again be held at the Woodstock Inn, Woodstock, Vermont 05091. You should write Mr. David Beach at the Inn for reservations, and do so early to be on the safe side. Judging by the enthusiasm expressed by those who were present last year, a great gathering is expected again this year. Members of the Executive Committee are asked to arrive on Thursday, September 22, so that all business can be disposed of that evening, leaving the remainder of the week open for just plain fun. As usual, there will be a football game at Hanover on Saturday as heretofore, tickets will be your own

So much has already been said ana written about the Alumni Fund that there is little that I can add. But I do want to urge you all to do your utmost and to give a bit more than before if at all possible. Our quota of $23,500 makes a most formidable goal to shoot at, but with fewer men many of whom are retired, it will not be easy unless every 17'er does his part.

Al Shiels phoned from Los Angeles last evening and said that he and Janet are definitely planning to come East to attend our 50th reunion in 1967.
