There was a good turnout in New York on Friday evening, April 15, for the Class cocktail party. Boodge Erwin, Buddy Schattman, George Yeager, and others did the planning, and about thirty showed up. Among those there was Will Cohen, active in entertainment and TV. Will is living at 130 West 57th Street, New York. The next morning an alert contingent of '56s gathered to discuss the more weighty matters concerning the Class. Russ Brace called the meeting to order at 9:45. Those on hand were Steve Brand, Len Clark, Bob Dumont, John Higgs, Erwin, Doug Keare, Leo McKenna, Wally Pugh, Dick Rosen, Tom Rosenwald and son Tim, myself, Schattman, and Yeager. We discussed the Alumni Fund drive, Class Reunion, the Foreign Student Scholarship Program, and the proposed Class discussion on urban affairs scheduled for reunion.
I sensed some depth to Russ Brace's feeling as he announced that this would be the last of our meetings together as an executive committee. A new committee will be elected
at reunion. Russ has presided for six years. He has worked hard, kept us well informed, had good support from many classmates, and stood strongly behind new proposals and ideas from various members of the class. We were saddened to learn of the death of Russ's father in March. With this, Russ now assumes further responsibilities as president and treasurer of The Journal Publishing Co. in Belfast, Me., and publisher of the Republican Journal, a weekly newspaper serving Belfast and Waldo County since 1829. Russ also becomes editor and publisher of the National and Maine Coast Fisherman, founded in 1946. This is a monthly newspaper and one of the most widely circulated marine publications in the U.S. Russ is trustee of the Knox County General Hospital, member of the Advisory Board of the Depositors Trust Co., the Camden Rotary Club, and the First Church of Belfast. A few months ago I met a hospital nurse from Camden, who told me that the best teacher she ever had was Jean Brace. Jean is now the mother of two. Jean and Russ are living in Rockport. Russ's office is in Camden.
