According to the unofficial calculations of your secretary, the year 1968 will mark the age at which a majority of the class will be due to retire from active business and join those who are already enjoying the fruits of leisurely living. Among those who recently retired is Bob Myers, who is getting settled in Rancho Bernardo, San Diego, Calif., having moved from Cincinnati, Ohio, where he had been general agent for Paul Revere Life Insurance Company for many years. He is already "enjoying living in this great country." He reports having talked a couple of times over the telephone with Jim Martin, who was living in Pauma Valley, before he returned to Phoenix, Ariz., also having seen Dick Orchard and his wife, Myra, who live in San Clemente, several times since their arrival. He closes with the comment we keep busy in this country of sunshine, although it is strange not to think about business and to realize that I am no longer producing — only consuming!"
Dick Colton has been transferred to New Orleans, headquarters of Lykes Brothers Steamship Company, as vice president and consultant. He resides at 2100 St. Charles Ave. 70130. The Paul Pearsons enjoyed a leisurely nine weeks' vacation in Europe last summer, traveling by ship, train and auto. Paul is still assistant headmaster of the Charlestown High School in Boston. George Scott has accepted an assignment which necessitates his moving to the Middle East (Kuwait) for about two years. He and Hazel were planning to make the move about February 1. George Sprague has been appointed European manager of the International Division of the Kendall Company with headquarters in London, England.
The art reference library at La Jolla Museum of Art has been named the Helen Palmer Geisel Library in recognition of Helen's influence and support in establishing the library, which contains nearly 1,000 bound volumes covering a wide range of art information, together with numerous art journals and other items of interest to artists.
Mary Hill has settled in Peterborough, N. H., where she teaches oral French a few hours a week at the Peterborough Consolidated School. She visits Norwich, Vt., frequently to see her daughter, Polly, who resides there with her husband, Dr. Robert G. Forcier.
Curt Abel is reported to have joined the fraternity of retirees January first. He was planning to visit the Bill Jenkinses on Cape Cod early in January and then take off for Florida - probably Naples. He hopes to spend at least four months in "our new diggins in Greensboro, Vt.," starting early in June. The Larry Leavitts helped the RadTanzers celebrate their wedding anniversary Christmas Eve. Larry has been appointed on an advisory committee to assist the Vermont Academy Development Program Director. Ford Whelden also serves on the committee as a bequest specialist.
