If this column seems to run at the mouth a little, it's probably because my words are thawing out. It was about 20° below zero when I wrote it. With the thaw, comes a little more news too.
Down in Florida, the Dade County Grand Jury recently appointed "aggressive former U. S. Attorney" Bob Josefsberg to head a "massive and independent investigation of dishonesty within high echelons of law enforcement." Sounds like a good plot for Mission: Impossible. The Hammermill Paper Company just announced the appointment of Joe Dare as Supervisor of Economic Analysis. Joe joined the company down in Erie, Pa., in 1965 after receiving his M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School. Modest Malm wouldn't let the news leak, but a newspaper got ahold of it - he was recently appointed Director of Economic Research for American Air Lines. Good going, Ransk. Jack Lampe was home for the Christmas holidays here in Hanover, and will be leaving shortly for a Peace Corps assignment in Central America. He will be teaching philosophy and working in the Registrar's Office at the University of Honduras. Chris Cundey may be sweating a higher tax bracket this year. He was recently elected as an assistant vice president by the Irving Trust Company down in New York City. Chris lives in Ridgewood, N. J., and works at the Park Avenue branch of the bank. How about a mortgage to pay my class dues, Chris?
Speaking of dues, we must have a little money in the treasury because I keep getting dues notices with a little info on the back. Some guys still like to get their buddies in hot water. I won't mention the name of the culprit, but Joe Wattleworth charges that recent misinformation about him was probably from the poison pen of a classmate. He is not married and the only contact he has ever had with the CIA is lunch in one of their cafeterias while in Washington, D. C. Actually, Joe is assistant research engineer with the Texas Transportation Institute which is part of Texas A & M University. I don't recall printing the misinformation myself, but perhaps John Ferries was fed the baloney for his newsletter. I've always said the best way to get news out of you guys is to print falsehoods. And don't try to sue, because I'm not worth much, unless you want to try and develop something out a pile of horse manure.
Steve Levine is down in New Haven practicing medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital. His speciality is gastro-something-or-other; it sounds like it deals with burps. He mentions seeing Gary Korenman at a gathering for the Yale-Dartmouth football game last fall. Harry Jeffrey was also there. JimCrise writes that he finds life in the "hard hot world of a steel mill" far more interesting than campus life. So what's dull about icicles and lots of snow? You might get a charge out of the mini skirt on the center of campus statue, Jim. Jim received his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago back in September and is now working for Inland Steel Company as a systems designer. Dave Robinson is down at Harvard Graduate School of Education having returned in June '65 from two and a half years in western Nigeria where he was business manager and social studies advisor in an experimental secondary school. He is now working for an Ed.D. in Educational Planning and is an assistant to the director of the Center for Study of Education and Development. We have an opening in our one-room school, Dave.
Dave Bell still works for the glasshouse gang - Pittsburgh Plate Glass. A while ago he was transferred to Trenton, N. J., and is now on his way to the New Haven office of the Company. He'll be living at Hunter's Trail in Madison, Conn.
Still some weddings. Tip Putnam was married to Arlene Young back in September. He is stationed with the Marines at El Toro, Calif., as a flight surgeon for a squadron that flies Phantom II jets. He hopes to be all through in July. A spring wedding is planned for Murray Towle and Jane Ellen MacFarlane. The wedding will take place down in Pembroke, Mass. Murray is now stationed at the Naval Hospital in San Diego as a member of the Navy Medical Corps.
Cleveland's Society National Bank has elected Nate Oakes an assistant vice president. Nate has been with the bank since 1960, after graduate study at Michigan Law School, and is a specialist analyst in the Investment Department. He is a member of the Bond Club of Cleveland and the Cleveland Society of Security Analysts. Nate and his wife Carolyn live in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
And a few quickies. Most of you have probably heard that Rudy LaRusso has hung it up in basketball. And you've probably been thoroughly entertained by some of the performances by Cliff Ebrahim on television and in movies. It sure can add to the appreciation of a performance when you know the actor, even a little bit. Joe Graham is a lawyer for Creative Management Associates, Ltd. out in Los Angeles. I'd say Ronald Reagan could use a little help in creative management! Andy Hommeyer is an account executive out in Minnesota for Knox, Reeves Advertising, Inc. Art Wolff is a production manager for the ARENDA Stage Company down in Washington, D. C. We have a number of men active in the arts. It might be interesting to have them get together and plan something for reunion. We certainly have the facilities up here now.
And I'd better save the rest for next time. This is a short month (February). By the time you read this, the cold snap will have passed and perhaps spring will be on the way. I don't really feel any different now than I did when I was twenty-nine, but when my wife tells me not to get short haircuts any more because too much scalp shows through, I guess things really are beginning to change. Send me hair raising news, will you?
