This is the time of year when it's hard to get a column like this started. Once I get a few sentences down and build up some momentum, though, it's not too bad. You are the ones who suffer.
I'd appreciate news from some of you concerning caravans coming to Reunion. If we publicize a few of them, maybe some stopovers with classmates can be arranged and we can start a domino reaction. Looking into the future, we don't have that many reunions left!
A great post-Christmas card from the Marshalls announces the birth of Jennifer Benson to Dave and Cynthia just before Christmas. Jennifer saw the Olympics by osmosis in October when her mommy and daddy were in Mexico City. Ed and Pat Hobbie have a new additiona boxer puppy who, according to Pat, makes Ed step up his jogging pace.
If any of you have big ski plans in the making, you might be interested in writing Peteand Leslie O'Neill out in Boise, Idaho. They have recently purchased a condominium in Sun Valley and are interested in renting it out when they aren't using it. Those of us in New England have plenty of snow to cope with this winter, but I guess there's nothing like Western skiing.
Off the ski slopes and into the cities Tom Seessel, executive director of the Housing Finance Agency of the Department of Community Affairs for New Jersey, spoke on state assistance for urban renewal at a conference sponsored by the New Jersey Banking Association and the Mortgage Bankers Association of New Jersey back in October. The focal point of the conference was interest rates on mortgages. Dr. JohnCocco is on duty at Tan Son Nhut Air Force Base in Vietnam. He had previously been at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. John took his graduate medical degrees from McGill University in Montreal. Butch and Cle Priest, who have been in Avon, Conn., since last February, are enjoying the foothills of the Berkshires. Butch is at Aetna's home office handling International Harvester one of the Company's largest policies. Can you get me a good deal on a tractor, Butch? Herb and Gail Finch are back in the States after a honeymoon trip to Australia and New Zealand in the fall. Herb says they had excellent beer in New Zealand'—ice cold at 8¢ a glass. He worked up his thirst in Australia where they got caught in a forest fire which almost canceled their whole tour. John Chilson married Judy Knott back in August and is presently practicing law and serving as Deputy District Attorney for Larimer County in Colorado. Judy, whose brother Hal Knott is Dartmouth Class of '61, graduated from Colorado University in 1963 and served for 18 months with the Red Cross in Asia, 1965-66. Bill Woolley is finishing up studies at the University of Indiana in some area of foreign studies. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but he has been doing extensive research in New York and Geneva at various U.N. libraries. He, his wife, and children spent most of the summer in England collecting data.
Greg and Sandy Holthusen are planning to come for our 10th from Detroit. They have recently purchased a new house and are in the market for some firewood because they finally have a fireplace. Al and Alice Ann Gilburg are now well established in Vaddukoddai, Ceylon, up in the Northern Province where Al is starting a five-year appointment as chaplain at Jaffna College under the auspices of the United Churcn Board of World Ministries. Before they left the United States, both Al and Alice Ann took an intensive ten-week course in the Tamil language.
Captain Rodge Agre, currently a doctor in the Marine Corps, writes of the birth of a son, Ross David, back in May and says hell have him up to 220 pounds and ready for Bob Blackman by his freshman year. Curing pilots who have pulled too many Gs, Captain Gene DuBoff is putting his M.D. to work as Hospital Commander for the 49th Tactical Fighter Wing at Holoman Air Force Base in New Mexico. He and his family had been residing in Germany for four years before coming back to trie States. Kent Neilson has completed his time on the General Electric Corporate Audit Staff and is now Manager of Costs and Operations Analysis for the Insulating Materials Department of GE in Schenectady, York. Sounds as if one could get a warm feeling for that job.
Jim Penza is presently the Chief Resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Boston City Hospital. He and Sandy live in Dedham, Mass. They have two daughters, four and two.Jim spent a year in Vietnam between 1965 and 1966 as a battalion surgeon with the Marine Corps. Walt Vincent is now Personnel Manager with the International Silver Company in Wallingford, Conn. His two children have an excellent chance of becoming silver tongued orators!
I'll save the rest or my news tor next month. I've got to get back to the business of selecting the Class of 1973, although with all the unpredictables these days, I often wonder if select is the right word. Maybe create is better!
