By now, most of you are probably cultivating your gardens and picking tulips while we up here are rejoicing at the sight of bare ground. Spring has loosened up the channels, for a good bit of news has floated in from one place or another.

I'll start with the direct approach. GoodyGilman has been named a director of the Newport Trust Company up in Newport, Me. He is quite active in the community up there and he and Sheila have two little children who must receive exemplary parental direction. What are the interest rates, Goody? Joe Nadeau has joined the Dover, N. H., law firm of Burns, Bryant and Hinchey as a partner and his name becomes the fourth in the partnership. Congratulations Joe. He is certainly impressively busy in community doings in Dover. Down in the sunny Carolina climes, Dennis Lacoss has been named a trust investment officer for the First Union National Bank of Charlotte, N. C. Bill Steck wrote announcing the birth of his first child — a daughter Kristen Margaret born at the Newton Wellesley Hospital on January 21. Bill graduated from the Harvard School of Design last June and has been working for the Architects Collaborative in Harvard Square since then. Bill, I'm not an architect but I have found that one of the most difficult design feats to cope with is that of folding diapers correctly. Good luck. Gil Griffin recently joined Mobile Oil Company's Office of General Counsel in New York City. I guess most of his cases are quite volatile.

Dartmouth men continue to conquer. Out in Ohio, the announcement of Don Davies engagement to Marilyn Jane Walker marks the establishment of another beachhead. George Powell wrote recently that he has moved to Croton-on-Hudson, N. Y., and accepted a position with Air Reduction Company as a corporate planner. Since graduation from Tuck in 1960 he had been with Socony Mobile Company serving as a financial analyst and a project manager in international commercial development. George and Tina have two children — Pamela 7 and Mark 2.

John Towle wrote a while back accepting my horse manure offer. He said he had a long list of people to whom he would like to send a bottle "not for their gardens, rather as a subtle gift item!" He also paid his class dues. John recently moved from Miami Beach to Mexico City where he spends his days selling advertising to the Mexican Tourist Council, the airlines, hotels, etc. He mentions that Ray Hymes is back in Miami working for Merrill Lynch and that Kurt Christiansen (as of a year ago) is in San Francisco working as the advertising director for the General Brewing Corp. Before closing, John mentioned that he had spent a nice evening with Bob and MarujaBerg who live in Mexico City. Bob is with the International Research Company. John's final words invited any of us in the class to stop by for "as much tequila as they can drink" any time we're in Mexico City.

As part of President Johnson's Great Society Program, Greg and Sandy Holthusen recently entertained Jim and Betsy Wooster,Ray and Rita Becker and Debby and me here in Hanover. The Woosters and the Beckers were up for a ski weekend. Jim has stopped giving lessons and should be solvent again within a few months. He noted that if it could be done at all, this was the year for the Class of 1959 to win the Green Derby of the Alumni Fund, for next year we join a new and stiffier group of competitors a new Green Derby grouping. He also pointed out that our goal as set by the Alumni Fund Office is, relatively speaking, well within our reach as determined by the showings we have made in recent years. Do we pass up this opportunity? Isn't there something quite satisfying that transcends our more immediate concerns and practical involvements when we know we are part of a strong and active alumni class?

I haven't heard from him personally, but I can attest to the fact that Craig Harlan is doing a fine job for Dartmouth as an alumni interviewer in the Dayton, O., area. DukeBligh is an automotive consultant for Montgomery Ward out in Chicago. Attempting to cure our young people of Beatle mania, JimMcKee is a psychology intern at the Worcester Youth Guidance Center in Worcester, Mass. Carlos Plummer is a glaciological assistant with the United States Antarctic Research Program currently in Davisville, R. I. He's attempting to create an iceburger for consumption at the Beefeater. James Bond may bite off more than he can chew, if he investigates. Lee Wilson is a Deputy Attorney General down in New Jersey Word has it that he may outlaw the single wing.

And that's about it for this time. I can't decipher the code on the remaining address cards that came from Alumni Records. Too many of you have joined the dodge-me rebellion when with a little effort you could come on over to the gossip side. But then, I guess you are all wrestling with your income taxes at this time.
