Thanks to the understanding of our class notes' editor, I was able to hand this column in at the very last minute, after a business trip that caused me to forget that I had one more to write before the summer layoff.

I had a pleasant visit with John Baldwin and Ted Gude during my recent visit to Chicago. John had spent three hours on a train to make it from Champaign, Ill., and Ted had driven down from Northwestern. It was particularly interesting to hear Ted talk about the recent disturbances at Northwestern and to explain his reasons for deciding to join Dartmouth's Government department next fall. He will become another '59 in town and . reside out in the boondocks of Canaan on his 600-plus acres spread across the street from our abode. Scottie Palmer, as some of you already know, will leave the area to take up studies for a Ph.D. in Latin American affairs at Cornell. If any of you wants a sheep cheap, he has about twenty he would like to unload.

At the annual meeting of the John Swenson Granite Company in February, MalSwenson was elected president and treasurer. He becomes the youngest president in the 85-year history of the firm, a leading quarrier and fabricator of building granite. The Brewers Digest contained a brief note that Pete Paxon had been appointed assistant manager of Glass Container Sales in Lancaster, Pa., by Armstrong Cork Company's Packaging Materials Division. Pete has been with the firm since 1959 holding various sales positions with the Philadelphia office of the company. Judging by the name of the digest, that's mighty valuable stuff you put in those containers, Pete. Carlos Plummer becomes the first '59 to have a glacier named after him. The glacier lies in the Ellsworth Mountains of Antarctica. How about supplying all the ice for our 10th Reunion, Carlos?

On April 6, Gary Ewing married Janice Bristol of Goffstown, N.H. Janice is presently employed in the pathology department at the University of Utah Medical School. Gary is employed by Holt, Rinehart, Winston Publishing Company.

Bob Czelusniak continues to be active in Massachusetts politics. He is presently serving as Register of Deeds for Hampshire County and recently turned down the opportunity to become deputy secretary to the secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Regional Agent John Hanson, currently in the Dean's office at Stanford University, writes that Jim Bybee is now chief engineer with a small electronics firm in Pacific Grove, Calif. Jim is now living in Monterey.

From Fairfield, Conn., Bob Johnson writes that the following '59ers received wed last month of their promotion to lieutenant commanders in the United States Naval Reserve: Bill Brigiani, Chris Cundey, Pete Foltz, Chuck Lamb, C. P. Montgomery, Bill Wooley, and Bob himself. Let's hope it doesn't become too active for any of them. Don Gilden is a doctor at Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, D.C.I knew after the Rugby trips, that Dick Liesching couldn't get Bermuda out of his mind. He's back there now with The American Life Insurance Company. Rennie Spaulding is still with the First National City Bank in Karachi, Pakistan. Frank Waldburger is with the FBI and I'm not supposed to tell you where he is. They do see them now and then around Plattsburgh, N.Y.

I had a pleasant chat with Skeff and BethMcAllister when I was down Westchester County way last week. Skeff is still trying to stay on top of the insurance business in New York City and in Westchester, with offices in White Plains and New York. They have a great little house on a quiet street in Pleasantville, N.Y., and such streets are hard to come by these days down that way He is presently working on a reunion warm-up for '59s down that way sometime in June.

I had a chance to talk with Reunion Chairman Ray Becker about tentative plans for our big 10th next June. The Class Officers met while I was away (Randy Malin, Bill Duggan, Jim Wooster, John Ferries' Ray Becker, and John Allbee sitting in for me, all made it back) and discussed a tentative division of responsibilities. The only request at this point is that you save June 20 21, and 22, 1969, and plan to be in Hanover. Our objective is to make it a completely enjoyable and worthwhile experience.

Have a good summer.
