In this age of supposed middle class complacency and entrenched occupational roles as described by Kazan in his book, "The Arrangement," there are still a few '60's who seem to have the free spirit.

Jack Patterson has left the secure life of the New York bank for the action of the floor of the American Stock Exchange where he will trade for Hugh Johnson and Co. Dave Haight has made a similar move from banking to the stock market, but his move was even more drastic since his move was from New Jersey to Tulsa, Okla., where he will be a customer's man for Eastman Dillon Union Securities & Co.

Perhaps a better example of doing your own thing is Bob Postel, who has taken a leave of absence from his New York law firm to be the campaign manager for Andrew Stein, who is running for New York State Assembly. And then we have a few spectacular moves like Jim Nolan's. Jim has moved from Pullman, Wash., to University Park, Orono, Me.

Ron Kley is also in Maine. He is a research associate in science with the Maine State Museum and is living in Winthrop. Bob Rhines has moved to Campton, N. H., where he is connected with the Waterville Company.

Carl Bahn and his wife and two children have just moved to Pittsfield, Mass. so he can assume his new role as advertising and sales promotion specialist for General Electric's Commercial Distribution Transformer Department. Carl is responsible for the department's advertising and sales promotion in the utility and industrial markets. Previously he was generation accounts supervisor in the electric utility and consumer products advertising section of GE's Advertising and Sales Promotion Department in Schenectary.

We received a note from Mike Carroll just before he went to Viet Nam in August. He will be flying as a reconnaissance pilot. His permanent base will be Bien How about 25 miles northeast of Saigon. Mike's wife, Jane, who just received her master's degree in English, will be teaching at Sayreville High, Sayreville, N. J.

The Student Council, of Windsor High, Windsor, Vt., named Carl Braun teacher of the year. Carl, a U.S. History teacher, was praised for "his outstanding enthusiasm for the school and the students." In another academic headline, it was reported that CliffRussell and his wife both received degrees from Harvard University last June. Cliff received his Ph.D. in economics while Louise was awarded a master's in economics. I would be interested in knowing who handles the checkbook in that family.

Dune Knapp has been promoted to the position of Marketing Analyst in Armstrong Cork Company's Marketing Research Department. The former stickball champion will be responsible for marketing research in the areas of industry products and international operations at the company's headquarters in Lancaster, Pa.

With an outstanding financial background in banking and corporate finance, DickPomboy has moved from Goldman, Sachs & Co. to D. H. Blair and Company where he is a vice president. He will be involved principally with underwriting new issues, and with mergers and acquisitions. Anyone wishing to avail himself of his services should check in with Dick at Blair's New York office. He and his Norwegian wife, Sissel, are living in Bronxville.

Also in Manhattan, giving Louis Nizer a hand with his life in court, Michael Heitner can be found at the offices of Phillips, Nizer, Benjamin, Krim & Ballon. Mike is associated with their firm for the practice of securities and corporate law.

From Wilton, Conn., Ron deNeuf reports that there are enough deNeufs with Joel, Suzanne and Karen, who are growing fast. He has been promoted to management associate for Avon Products. He says that he and Marilyn are looking forward to reunion.

Tom Troyer writes, "It seems that ever since I left Hanover I have been searching for the proper niche in life for me. In short, I have been a captain in the Air Force, a copilot for General Motors and I am now getting ready to go to work as a pilot for Pan Am. It's like starting at the bottom of the ladder again, but this time I feel as though I have truly arrived." Annelie and Tom have arrived at 888 Foster City Boulevard, G-3, Foster City, Calif., with Laura and John.

Out of the Bennington Travel Agency, Inc., 431 Main Street, Bennington, Vt., came one of the wildest wedding announcements ever seen. Perhaps this was due to the fact that the announcement was about and written by the Agency's "mild-mannered, unassuming, even-dispositioned" owner PeterHawks, who was scheduled to marry one Bobbie Green last summer. In between telling us that Bobbie is a Skidmore grad with additional work in math at Cornell for a master's and further praise of her many talents, Pete mentions that he is continuing to work for Head Ski Company as a district sales manager while running his travel business.

The engagement of Richard Baldwin has been announced also. He will marry Phyllis Lawrence. Barbara Black has also let it be known that she will take the big walk with Robert Destino. Some other short notices are as follows: Bernard Doe has been promoted to the rank of major after a distinguished tour of duty in Viet Nam. Robert Argazzi announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for state representative in Connecticut. Bob received his law degree from Yale and lives in Berlin, Conn. .On the other side of the fence, Errol K.Paine became a candidate in the June primary on the Democratic ticket for the office of Penobscot county attorney. Errol has been in the general practice of law in Bangor, Me., since 1965 and is the senior member of the law firm of Paine and Cohen.

Dan Gordon has been named vice president and legal counsel for two insurance companies based at King of Prussia, Pa. He began his career as a part-time agent while studying law. The companies are World Mutual Health and Accident Insurance Company of Pennsylvania and World Life and Health Insurance Company of Pennsylvania.
