Spring fever came early to our classmates this year, hence news is very sparse this month. Your secretary will proceed to make the most of it.
Jim Laughton posted the following from Hawaii: "Thanks for the black-haired compliment originating from Dick Chase's color photo. I disclaim any utilization of Clairol but rather attribute the lack of snow on the roof to the sane, non-frenzied, comfortable life in Hawaii. Dick and Barbara will attest to the non-hectic life we lead and I am sure that Dave and Evelyn Bender would confirm it. When anyone has to wade through snow, losing shoes in the process, and hack away the ice from the front door as Dick did when he returned from vacationing with us, it would turn hair gray, even mine. Mary joins me in sending our best wishes and our hope that we may see you out here in the near future." Well, I can remember Jim when he enjoyed sloshing around in the snow, and as a matter of fact he was pretty good at 180 degree skids on icy West Wheelock Street. Never skinned a tree. I'll bet you can't do that in Hawaii. I think it would be very nice if the whole Class dropped in on the Laughtons one day next winter.
One of our classmates who resides m Hanover has advised me "to keep Soule's name out of the column for a while." OK, we'll do just that, P.S. In the meantime, thanks for the following news items, P.S. "Ruthand Jack Weatherly popped by to help me paint a trellis, but I was out of brushes so we sat and chatted. Ask Jack sometime how to buy a car for $10. He did! I saw it! Jack is very much involved in enrollment work in Connecticut and had brought a young prospect up to visit a friend at the College."
More from P.S. "Mardie and Tower Snow arrived this week from Phoenix to visit their son Tower Jr. '69."
Still more. "Charles Rupe' Brooke's Alumni Fund contribution came over from Maine this year. What's he doing there? A transplanted Michigander, maybe?"
Thanks, P.S. Let me know when I can use your name again.
Beany Thorn sent a clipping from Hudson, N.Y., and I was fascinated to read about the new fire engine that the town of Clinton had just purchased. However, when I turned over the clipping I found an item about Spence Miller who said that the Maine Central needs increased freight revenues if it is to remain, solvent and viable. Thanks, Beany, but don't forget to tell me what's new with you when you get the chance.
Dick Henry has been appointed a vice president in the overseas division of First National City Bank, supervising operations in Southeast Asia.
Shep Wolff writes that he joined the Hanover area Dartmouth Club, attended their annual dinner, chatted with Line and SarahPage, and in general gets over to Hanover for many events. Sounds terrible. JackWarwick says in a note to Shep, "I'd like to swap with you."
Jack writes that he is now known as J. Warwick and Co., Incorporated, and is devoting most of his time and effort to the field of mergers and acquisitions. From the newspapers one gathers that this is a live field these days.
Jack enclosed a clipping about the part which Vic Rockhill played when Chase Manhattan Overseas Banking Corporation entered into discussions of joint ownership of the National City Bank of Dublin, Ireland. Our banker classmates spread their influence throughout the world.
Once more we have come to the end of another year for the Class column. It may be that I will be back on the job again next fall, but more details of that later. Have a good summer!
