JUNE 1968 CHARLES N. BLAKEMORE, JOHN C. KLEIN

Some good news this month. Some bad news this month. And I'll start with the bad so I can end this, my last official column as your secretary on a somewhat optimistic note.

On Easter Sunday, April 14, Dr. JohnWatson and his wife, Rita, were killed in an automobile crash at Goshen, N.Y. Red and his family were on their way to Nutley, N.J., to spend the day with his father and mother. The three Watson children were still in the hospital last word I had. When things like this happen I am at a loss for words.

Due to my timely inefficiency we have a bit more news this month than we ordinarily would have had. When we moved offices two months ago I mislaid all the news items which would normally have appeared in the March issue of the MAGAZINE.

From Greenville, N.C., I have a news release on Dr. Percy Crosby. Percy has moved from Chicago to Greenville where he is now on the faculty of East Carolina University. Percy is a geologist and in January he received a grant of $18,300 from the National Science Foundation to continue his studies of Anothosite, a rock rich in feldspar. His studies will give information on the temperature and pressure acting near the base of the earth's crust during mountain formation.

Also from that earlier cache a January news release informs us that Conrad Carstens is a vice-president of Basford PR-Promotion, Inc. Corny is an account supervisor. He joined Basford in 1960 and as well as being elected V.P. he was also elected to the board of directors.

Yes, and another release dated December, no less. In it James A. Donmoyer is appointed national wholesale and utilities sales manager for the Westinghouse lamp division. Jim has been with Westinghouse ever since 1952. Since 1966 he's been manager of the Miami district, and the new promotion means he'll have moved his family from the sunny south back up north because his new office address is in Bloomfield, N.J. Guess you can't have everything.

In February George Littlehales was appointed personnel manager of Cerro Wire & Cable Company's New Haven plant. George, his wife and three kinder live in Branford, Conn.

And another honor has come to BobBrace. In February the board of directors of United-Carr Incorporated elected him treasurer of the corporation. Bob who has been a banker and sales manager joined United-Carr a year ago as assistant to the president.

And way back in January UTD Corporation formed an International Division and appointed Frank Lee European Director. In his new position Frank will forsake Wash- ington, D.C., for Frankfurt, Germany.

Out on the West Coast Sears, Roebuck had the good sense to make our ol' classmate Vince Jones general counsel for the whole Pacific Coast Territory. Vince joined Sears in January, 1965 and before that he was associated with law firm of Brobeck, Phleger and Harrison in San Francisco. Now Vince is back home in Long Beach with his wife, three children, and the Queen Mary.

From Marblehead, Mass., Jim Cooke writes to fill me in on the past fourteen years of his life. Most importantly he was named commander of the Marblehead Power Squadron for 1968-1969. In case you don't know about Power Squadron it is a national organization which educates weekend sailors. For the past four years Jim's been teaching celestial navigation. He also started two of his kids ski racing this past winter and to set an example Jim and spouse, Jane, took up racing again. Jim makes his living as an engineer working for Lynn Sand & Stone Co. in Swampscott, Mass.

Also from the Boston Area Steve Meterparel writes with information about the Beacon Sports Network where he hangs his hat week days. In addition to carrying the Big Green football games on a 35-station New England network Beacon carries the Baltimore Colts and Notre Dame. (Media buyers take note!)

And now after six marvelous years I take my final adieu. You will receive a description of the Fantastic Re-Union from me but this is my last regular column. It's been fun. Sometimes tedious. But mostly fun. I suspect I might even miss it.
