Gary Walters, a 1967 Princeton graduate, has been appointed an instructor in the Department of Physical Education at the College. A native of Reading, Pa., Walters was a starting guard for the Tigers on three Ivy League championship hoop teams, captaining the Orange and Black as a senior. He will coach freshman basketball, succeeding retiring Tony Lupien at that spot. Walters joins Dartmouth after coaching basketball and baseball at Lehigh.
John J. DeGange Jr. has been appointed the new Director of Sports Information at Dartmouth. Daniel J. Connolly has been named as his assistant. Both appointments will take effect in early July, according to Director of Athletics Seaver Peters. DeGange has been associate director of public relations and director of sports information at New Haven College for the past year. Prior to his New Haven assignment he was a member of the Connecticut Blue Cross public relations department. Following graduation from Bates College, he was a sports reporter for the New Haven Register, New Haven Journal-Courier, and the Stamford Advocate.
Connolly, who graduates this June from Boston College, served as sports editor of the school newspaper for two years. He also worked as a student assistant in the B.C. Office of Sports Information. Last summer Connolly served as the traveling secretary for the Boston Shamrock Rovers and the United Soccer Association. He is a native of Omaha, Neb.
