It is with best wishes to all class members that we enter in to the New Year.

Realizing that June graduation will soon take two of our Class of '56 Foreign Scholars, it is timely that we introduce our newest one - Ng Poh Nua from Malaysia who is a freshman. Several members of the Class met him in Hanover this fall and he impressed them all. We hope that many members of the Class get a chance to meet Ng during school vacations or on any visits to Hanover during his career at Dartmouth.

Two more of our classmates have joined the married ranks recently. On October 17 Miss Louise Shapiro became the bride of Roy B. Friedman in New York. Louise is a graduate of Penn with a master's degree from Harvard. Roy's talents were recently put to print in his first novel "The Insurrection of Hippolytus Brandenberg." Miss Anita Louise Mook, of Hamden, Conn., recently became the bride of John E. Cotton. Anita is a graduate of Boston University with an M.S. in geology from Michigan. She is employed by the U.S. Geological Survey in Boston, as is John who is a hydrologist. Our congratulations to both couples. Also in the romantic department comes word of the engagement of Miss Susan Kennedy, of Evanston, Ill., to Phil Hackbarth. Susan attended Manhattanville College and received a master's degree from the University of Chicago. Phil is an attorney practicing in Chicago.

Bill Skiff, formerly of South Easton, Mass., has become associated with Fred C. Lyman and Company, Bar Harbor, Me., as an insurance and real estate salesman. Prior to this, Bill had his own insurance and real estate business.

Herr Bob Mackay has been elected to the Young Presidents' Organization Inc., an educational association with an international membership of 2200 presidents of sizable companies who attained their position before the age of 40. President and founder of City Bowling in West Germany, Bob opened the first American-style tenpin bowling center in Germany and now operates a chain of them, as well as ski areas, throughout Europe. He and his German wife Heidi live in West Berlin.

John Nordling is president of Nordling Associates, Inc., New Hope, Pa. John recently sent me a most impressive brochure describing Trybo Prefabricated Modular Homes. He is most willing to provide one of these vacation homes to any classmates presently searching for such an item. Undoubtedly it comes packed in a peel apart package and a few cents' freight can bring one to your door quickly.

The Air Force advised me recently of Major Dick Zock's accomplishments in Vietnam. Dick was credited with destroying 111 enemy trucks. Dick, his wife Jacquelin, and children have recently returned to Boulder, Colo., for a tour of duty.

Gordon Lend has assumed the position of headmaster at Barstow School in Kansas City, Mo. Prior to this he was assistant headmaster at Pingry School, Elizabeth, N. J. Congratulations to Gordon and his wife, Margaret, in this fine promotion.

Eastman Kodak Company has recently announced the appointment of Frank Strong as an administrative assistant for developing pricing policies for photographic products and services. Frank, his wife Barbara, and three children live in Pittsford, N. Y. Here's hoping Frank avoids governmental pitfalls in a very sensitive area in his new position.

Bud Roth, co-owner of Roth Brothers Manor House in DeWitt, N. Y., has been named "Retailer of the Month" by Baumritter Corporation, New York City, makers of Ethan Allen American traditional furniture. While the award was given in connection with a flower show event, I'm sure Bud is more renowned as a "hard and soft goods merchant."

In closing, Bill Zales has asked that special emphasis be placed on greater participation from the Class this year as well as total amount raised for the 1956 Foreign Student Scholarship Fund. This is our one big project as a class - Let's all participate in it!

Your contribution of news to me for this and subsequent columns are deeply appreciated.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
