Goodbye to the fastest summer I've ever spent, and greetings once more to all '68s everywhere in the world! It is nice to be back again, although I highly recommend Bayonne and Biarritz, in the Southwest corner of France, to anyone. The girls and the beaches are everything the legends say they are.

I know I am not the only one who has been traveling recently. Quite a few cards and letters have been coming in all of a sudden. Pete Hofman writes from Tacna, Peru, where he'll be for the next two years, to say hello. In addition to setting up this year's executive committee machinery, he informed me that Fred Martin will marry Margorie Hickey (Smith '69) in December Fred is with the Navy, stationed at Pearl Harbor.

From Kenya comes word from ChuckAdams that he is not The Peace Corps Director of the area, but merely a lowly volunteer. Pardon the faulty info, Chuck. At least you know we were thinking highly of you. Chuck likes his work and spends many of his isolated hours reading, writing, and going through periods of serious introspection. He sends his regards to the class.

From Guam, Frank Couper writes to compare travel notes. Frank is really getting around via the Coast Guard outfit he's with. Having already been to Japan, Taiwan, Okinawa, and "every small island in the South Pacific!," Frank is scheduled to go to India and Australia in December for four weeks. A Wah Hoo Wah from the class for Frank, also, for having had a recent article of his ("Indian Party Conflict on the Issue of Atomic Weapons") published in the "Journal of Developing Areas," June '69. I guess life isn't all geisha girls, typhoons, and tidal waves!

From a bit closer to the Big Green, JimTonkavich writes telling me the facts of life at Syracuse where he is presently on the Dean of Men's Staff as a Resident Advisor to Undergrads. Jim is working on his Master's in Television Arts, a summer of Hopkins Center work having gone to his head, I suppose. Thanks for the note, Tonks; see you at Parties or Carnival!

From Vietnam, Mike Lenehan sends his regards and informs me he has been promoted twice in rapid succession. He is currently (last I heard) working in the fire direction control bunker, figuring data for the self-propelled howitzers located up near the DMZ. Mike says he saw Peter Baylor and Taylor Wagenseil at Al Ott's wedding to Peggy Coll last December. Pete was with the Army Corps of Engineers and Taylor was then an ensign aboard the "USS Garcia." Mike mentions, also, that Tom Stonecipher was then attending Artillery OCS and Steve Elliott was headed for OCS in the Army after completing Basic Training at Fort Dix, N. J. Also, Bill and Jeanne Stahl were living in New Orleans, where Bill was teaching school daily and attending law school at night. Best of luck to all of you, and thanks for keeping in touch, Mike.

Second Lieutenant Roger Overholt has been awarded his Air Force silver pilot wings at Williams Air Force Base in Arizona. His new assignment takes him to Forbes AFB in Kansas for flying duty with the Tactical Air Com- mand. Traveling to Kansas with him will be his wife Marjorie and son Richard. He has been in the Air Force since graduation, having been commissioned through the ROTC program. Be sure to send us your new address in Kansas, Roger.

This past August, Al Raymond married Charlotte Cecil (Briarcliff). The Raymonds will be living in Boston where Al will enter Boston University Grad School of Public Communications. Others to take the plunge were Jim Price, who married Mary Crowe (Bennington) and is now living in New Haven; Jerry Durbin, who married Kirsten Dahlman (Wheaton and U.Mass); J.J. Collins, married to Cathy Fils and living in Memphis; and Leckie Rives, who is now the husband of Vicki Thurston (Wheelock). There are many more, of course, but no room at this time. I'll try to get Bill Kolaski to put them all in the next Newsletter.

Tom Laughlin is in the Army Reserves. Last I heard, he was working for Gillette in product management and marketing. This fall, if all went well, he should be at Boston University Grad School of Business, getting his MBA. He sadly reported last April that he was one '68 I could not report nailed, not yet that is. I give you six months in Boston, Laugh!

Nobody does a funnier, more thorough job of writing than Boyd Barrick. His good news generally is postmarked somewhere in Chicago, and the last word from Boyd indicated that he still prefers the scent of pine to smog. He is studying at the University of Chicago and still happily married from all reports.

Dave Detweiler has left the of Rhode Island, where he had been studying oceanography, and joined the ranks of the employed. He is working for Rohm and Haas Company in their research division in Bristol, Pa. Assigned to a plastics applications laboratory, he is engaged in the development of new products and applications in the alloy plastics program. A chemistry major, he spent two summers working in the firm's technical service laboratories. He and Cynthia and their son live at 422 Madison Avenue, Penndel, Pa.

Jon Page, our friendly keeper of the class coin, says Scott Wadler picked up a Maser's in Philosophy from the University ot Wisconsin and has been teaching him how chess should be played.

Bill Barker is doing graduate work at the University of Toronto this year. Al Meyers is a Fellowship student in Anthropology at that school in Ithaca we hope to trounce in football over Houseparties. Jack Noon, whom I met on Main Street recently, is writing for a would-be living, and living the life of a would-be free lance writer in Lyme, N. H. His funds from last year's teaching are dwindling, so he will gladly accept contributions so that the best interests of art may continue to be served. Mike Ryan got his MBA and is working as an Investment Analyst for the Irwin Management Co. of Columbus, Ind.

Noel Augustyn received a Master of Arts degree from Stanford last June. Noel found life in the San Francisco Bay area anything but dull, even for a school teacher. He also mentioned the Dartmouth Alumni Club in the area, which keeps the Spirit of the College alive and strong. Tom Okarma and Greg Marshall were his roommates. Greg not married in June. Noel is currently Assistant Dean of Men at Ripon College, Wis. (near Oshkosh, the former home of the inimitable Jerome Kirkpatrick). Anyone in the area is most welcome to share the golden bubblies with Noel by just dropping bv- . ,

Running out of space, I guess. Please take the time to send your latest news or news about our classmates along, noting my new address.
