The countdown to reunion has reached one month, and we are very pleased with both the program that has been planned and the turnout that has been indicated. June 20-22 is going to be a fabulous weekend for '65, and we're looking forward to seeing many of you in Hanover then. It's not too late for those of you who haven't yet made a final commitment — send your reply in today to reserve places for you and your lady.
Pete Breitling has written us of a new address, a new job, and a new addition. He's now working for Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell, and Heppel in Philly, and has recently moved to Devon, Pa., because "everyone knows all Philadelphia lawyers settle on the Main Line." The biggest news in the Breitling household, though, is the arrival of Todd Evans in late February. Congratulations. .
Pete also mentioned that his former rabard mate and law school partner, Art Rainev, is now in Newport at Navy OCS !n the early phases of a four-year tour with Navy JAG.
Word comes from the south that.StormyMayo is making quite a name for himself at the Univ. of Miami Institute of Marine Sciences. He's doing doctoral work there and has recently succeeded in raising thirteen species of fish from egg to juvenile size a feat which the Institute's authorities called "unprecedented." Don't be surprised if Stormy continues to make the headlines in his marine specialty.
Jock Hosmer called the other night and among other tidbits he passed on news of the whereabouts of Dick Durrance. They bumped into each other at Cannon Mt. in March, and Jock learned that Dick had just taken up again with National Geographic after a stint with Uncle Sam.
Jock also reported on the marriage of John Davis to Miss Ellen Johnson (Univ. of Alabama) on Feb. 1. They were wed at Indiantown Gap Military Reservation in Pennsylvania, where John is serving as an Army 1st lieutenant. They'll live in Mechanicsburg, Pa., until his hitch is up, and then hope to head back up to New Hampshire so that John can begin reaping the benefits of his Univ. of Michigan Law degree. They'll preview their permanent return to the Granite State by making the reunion scene.
The '65 contingent at Tufts Med has received its interning assignments, according to Jim Howe. He'll be taking wife Becky out to Chicago where he will be a surgical intern at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics. Other internships Jim mentioned are Jerry Putnam at the New England Center Hospital in Boston, and Jeff Carlson at Boston City Hospital.
Frank Bellizia has recently been named resident director of the Greylock ABC Project in Williamstown, Mass. He is on the faculty at Mt. Greylock H.S. and last summer was an English instructor in the summer ABC program —so now he combines these roles for next year. Frank also plans to take on the added responsibility of a bride in June. He'll marry Miss Priscilla Bonney (Bates '65), who is also a teacher at Mt. Greylock.
Other engagement news comes from Dr. Dick Shaw, who will marry Jane Ann Steidley (Univ. of Michigan '69) in June. Dick is interning at Cleveland's Mt. Sinai Hospital after having received his degree from the Albert Einstein School of Medicine in N.Y.C.
Pete Paeschke is one step ahead as he was married to Miss Phyllis Morongell (Mt. Holyoke) on Feb. 2. He is an assistant to the vice-president for business affairs at Tufts University, and she teaches at Wakefield, Mass., High School.
When Ted and Ann Atkinson dropped by recently we champagne toasted his withdrawal from Fort Devens and return to civilian life. Now that his six months are up they are headed back to Minneapolis and General Mills, Inc.
You've undoubtedly been contacted by now about the 1969 Dartmouth Alumni Fund, because it's that time of year again. Our class has improved in its annual giving each year, and yet we haven't once reached the dollar goal which the College sets for us each year. Because this is a significant year for the Class of 1965 — our first reunion — and for the College, as it leaps into its third century, it would be an especially appropriate time for us to ring the bell. Tim McLaughlin, who engineered our most successful drive last spring, is at the helm again and is stressing participation. More of you than ever before are in a position to give, and for some to give generously, this year. The most appropriate statement regarding the Fund is one President Dickey recently made in explaining the importance of alumni support to the college's fiscal needs: "Dartmouth's contribution to society depends upon your contribution to Dartmouth." Let's give so that Dartmouth can continue to be great.
Cheers! We'll look for you all in June.
