Word has reached all of us by this time concerning the need for a total effort by the class in meeting the 1970 Alumni Fund goal of $2.1 million dollars. You will be hearing from your class agent in connection with this drive shortly; hopefully we will reach our class commitment.

Paul Margulies, who is with the Paris office of the advertising firm of Wells, Rich and Green, is the author of an entertaining new book for children entitled "Gold Steps, Stone Steps." A review of the book has caused my wife to order the book for our children!

Howard N. Newman has been named administrator of the medicaid health assistance program for the poor. A 1967 White House fellow, Howard has a graduate degree in Public Health and Administrative Medicine from Columbia. Prior to his recent assignment, he was associate administrator of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. Anyone familiar with the health field is aware of the need for the strong leadership that Howard will give to his new position. We have other news from the field of medicine concerning two other classmates. Dr. DaveGleason has joined the associate staff of Hunt Memorial Hospital in Danvers, Mass., as a radiologist. Dave received his M.D. from Michigan and has served in various locations internationally in his specialty. Dr. Joe Gonnella is associate dean (director of academic programs) and assistant professor of medicine at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia. Joe and his wife recently became parents for the third time.

Tom Penchoen teaches Berber language (Morocco and Algeria) and some linguistics at UCLA. Tom is sold on the weather in Southern California but despairs of its government. He recently had dinner with BillWheeler and his wife who have moved to Pasadena. Tom is particularly pleased with the appointment of Dr. Kemeny as president. Dick Scobie has recently moved to Wellesley, Mass., after two years in Buenos Aires. He is a doctoral student in Social Planning and Administration at Brandeis. John Liebman moved to White Plains from Washington, D. C., in September, 1968. He manages to see Harvey Litt and Mike Grunebaum between extensive travels connected with his work. Foster L. Aborn has been promoted to investment officer in the bond and stock department of John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, Boston. Hal Gordon is engaged to Miss Joan S. Elbaum. Both Hal and Miss Elbaum are attorneys in New York. Hal received his LL.B. from Yale; Joan received hers from Harvard. That must provide some stimulating discussions! Ab Oakes reports talking with Arnie Levin who was in Hanover recently. Arnie lives in Westport, Conn., and is a diamond importer. He and his wife Roxie have plans of building a vacation home on Lake Mascoma. Their son Steve, a junior in high school, is a fine soccer player who has an interest in Dartmouth in the Class of 1975. Bob Dumont and his wife Sue were in Hanover recently to take in a string of athletic events. Hank Taylor deserves a hand for his untiring efforts in recruiting for the athletic department. He lives in the North Shore area of Boston and has two daughters who are fine swimmers. Paul Nelson, professor of English at Goddard College, recently read and discussed his poetry in Sanborn House. He is planning to publish a collection of poems entitled "The Glass Bottomed Boat."

Best regards to all.
